🇬🇧 The Origin of Skol
In the culture of the Scandinavians, "Skål" meant a wish for health. During the celebration, the oldest man, the head of the family or the jarl of the settlement, if the party was large, would stand at the head of the table and, before drinking, loudly pronounce "Skol!", addressing the guests. Then the guests would answer in unison "Skol!"and the banquet was beginning.
This is how this custom is described by a skald in one of the sagas:
""Skol!", the konung Asbrand shouted wildly, jumping on the table. The warriors joyfully raised their horns filled with honey, and the feast began in honor of the arrival of the leader."

🇬🇧 The Kombi
Also known as Bulli, it is an iconic van that emerged from a sketch by Ben Pon in 1947 and whose serial production began in 1950. This vehicle, originally conceived as a versatile working tool, became a symbol of the hippie era in the 60s and an icon of popular culture.
In 1947, Ben Pon, a Dutch Volkswagen importer, envisioned a cargo vehicle based on the Volkswagen Beetle and the T1 emerged. The design was characterized by its box-like shape, boxer-type rear engine and versatility to transport both passengers and cargo.
Production started in Wolfsburg in 1950 and expanded to a new plant in Hannover in 1956 due to high demand. It mounted an air-cooled 4-cylinder 25 hp boxer engine, derived from the Beetle, which provided the necessary power for everyday tasks.
The T1 could carry up to 750 kg of payload, making it ideal for various commercial applications. The possibility of configuring the interior with seats or using it as a van made it an adaptable option to different needs.
It became a symbol of the hippie era, associated with travel, freedom and an alternative lifestyle. It had several versions, including vans, minibuses and camper models. In 1967, the second generation, the T2, was launched, with improvements in design and visibility.
His production continued in Brazil until 1975, extending his legacy for more than two decades. It remains a highly prized vehicle by collectors and enthusiasts, remembered for its iconic design and its cultural impact.

Fun little fact or rumour I should say, for my fellow Melbournians. According to rumours there is a tunnel under The Shrine of Remembrance that leads to Victoria Barracks.
Victoria Barracks construction started in 1856 supposedly, and The Shrine of Remembrance started construction in 1928, supposedly.
I did a little research and found a random forum of someone saying that apparently when VicRoads was commencing construction on an underground tunnel for road infrastructure in 2009, they encountered an issue with this supposed tunnel blocking it’s path.
I don’t know for sure if there is one, but it wouldn’t surprise me, and if so, I wonder what purposes they are using it for.

Giant Sloth Milk in Patagonia
https://x.com/1_analog_9/status/1579457822647283712/photo/1
"The Patagonians, wild, powerfully built Indians, had succeeded in domesticating the giant sloth, the mylodon, whose amiable disposition and gigantic bulk had made it possible for the prehistoric natives to fence this huge mammal in a cave where they fed it with cut grass and milked it—perhaps a barrel or more at a milking.
"This sloth was one of the stupidest animals that ever lived on the face of the earth. For that reason it was easily tamed. Its dimensions seemed to correspond closely to the animals I had found."
Well, that was Richard D'Orsay's story. You can bet it left me gasping.
Dick will, I know, attempt to return to that same valley in the Lianganati region and perhaps photograph the monster.

(Marilyn Monroe)
Buongiorno anime belle🌷
🇭🇲 Sweet people are not naive. Nor are they stupid. Nor are they helpless. On the contrary, they are so strong that they can afford not to wear any masks. They are free to be vulnerable, to feel emotions, to take the risk of being happy.

Good morning, beautiful souls🌷

However, the novel was only published 131 years later: the publisher considered it too incredible.

No entanto, o romance só foi publicado 131 anos depois: o editor considerou-o demasiado incrível.

🇬🇧 The Bimini Road, or the Lost City of Atlantis
This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bimini because of the mystery surrounding the site. In the 1930s, an American psychic named Edgar Cayce reported that he had spoken with a person who had lived in the Lost City of Atlantis in a former life. This Atlantean told Cayce that Atlantis had been near Bimini. Cayce predicted that portions of the temples of Atlantis would become visible near Bimini in '68 or '69.
When a private pilot flying over the waters near North Bimini reported seeing a strange parallel structure in shallow water, many people believed these were either walls from Atlantis or a mysterious road leading to Atlantis. And, thus, the mystery of the Atlantis Road was born.
