Al principio, muchos pensaron que eran bromas, pero los testimonios se multiplicaron, llamando la atención de la Oficina de Investigación (antecesora del FBI).
El agente Leon Bone fue el encargado de la investigación. Entrevistó a un tal John van Valkenburg, quien afirmaba haber inventado un aparato antigravedad sin motores ni alas, capaz de viajar grandes distancias y desafiar las leyes conocidas.
El caso se entrelazó con relatos de cultos oscuros, masones, espionaje alemán y profecías místicas. Los protagonistas hablaban de un líder espiritual llamado «el Adepto», que tendría el verdadero poder sobre estas máquinas enigmáticas.
A pesar de interrogatorios, arrestos e informes confidenciales, nunca se produjo una prueba tangible. El caso fue archivado como locura colectiva, engaño u operación de encubrimiento.
Sin embargo, las observaciones continuaron, como si algo extraño persistiera siempre en el cielo de Utah. Este relato prefigura lo que hoy llamamos el fenómeno OVNI: luces no identificadas, máquinas fuera de lo común, testigos creíbles, pero ningún secreto realmente revelado.

🇮🇹 Misteri nel Cielo dello Utah
Durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, alcuni abitanti dello Utah riferirono di avvistamenti di UFO, o "dirigibili misteriosi", che si muovevano di notte nel cielo, muniti di luci e compiendo manovre inspiegabili.
All'inizio molti pensarono a scherzi, ma le testimonianze si moltiplicarono, attirando l'attenzione del Bureau of Investigation (antenato dell'FBI).
L'agente Leon Bone fu incaricato delle indagini. Interrogò un certo John van Valkenburg, che sosteneva di aver inventato un dispositivo antigravità senza motori né ali, capace di viaggiare su grandi distanze e sfidare le leggi conosciute.
Il caso si intrecciò con racconti di culti oscuri, massoni, spionaggio tedesco e profezie mistiche. I protagonisti parlavano di un capo spirituale chiamato "l'Adepto", che avrebbe detenuto il vero potere su queste macchine enigmatiche.
Nonostante interrogatori, arresti e rapporti riservati, non fu mai prodotta alcuna prova tangibile. Il caso fu archiviato come follia collettiva, inganno o operazione di copertura.
Tuttavia, le osservazioni continuarono, come se qualcosa di strano persistesse sempre nel cielo dello Utah. Questo racconto prefigura ciò che oggi chiamiamo fenomeno UFO: luci non identificate, macchine fuori dal comune, testimoni credibili, ma nessun segreto realmente svelato.

“Those great decisions having been made, Van Horne proceeded to lay out his construction programme. He announced that he would lay five hundred miles of track across the prairies in 1882. Not only Canada but all America stood aghast at this prediction. If the weather had broken right he would have made it. As it was, there was completed 417 miles of main track, together with 28 miles of sidings, and 18 miles of grading were ready for the next season. In addition, over 100 miles of track had been laid on branches in Manitoba. Between Moose Jaw and Calgary as much as five miles of track had been laid in one day”.
