St. Paul's College Inaugurates New Half-Kilometer Road
St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College has officially inaugurated a newly constructed half-kilometer asphalt road at its Family Medicine Department, improving access to the facility. The road, which was constructed under the standards set by the Addis Ababa Road Authority, aims to address previous challenges, particularly for wheelchair-bound patients and ambulances, who had difficulty accessing the hospital, especially during the rainy season.
The total cost of the project amounted to 8 million Ethiopian Birr. The road was built by Bamacon Engineering Plc, Asmelash and Sons Construction Plc, and Kibish Construction, with funding provided by these engineering groups and the College. During the inauguration ceremony, the CEO of the Sub-city, Mr. Wolde Wogessi , praised St. Paul’s Hospital for its continuous contributions to the community, highlighting the importance of the new road as a vital infrastructure improvement. “This project is a great example of how the hospital is working closely with the community,” he said.
On behalf of St. Paul’s College, Mr. Jemal Shifa, Business and Development Vice provost, emphasized the institution’s ongoing efforts to support the community. He noted that over 90,000 people have benefited from free medical checkups organized by the hospital and its outreach programs, including the construction and repair of homes for disadvantaged families.
Dr. Sisay Sirgu, the Provost of St. Paul’s, also extended his gratitude to the construction companies, local representatives, and Gulele Subcity officials for their support and contributions to the successful completion of the road project. "This is a significant step towards improving the quality of life for those we serve," he concluded.

We would like first to congratulate all candidates who took the ERMP 2024 MCQ exam which was conducted nationally on December 31, 2024 in 15 hubs. Of the 1985 eligible candidates, 1811 were able to sit for the exam, and 1 candidate was disqualified.
The ERMP team collected the results of all 1810 examinees from all 15 exam hubs and compiled them together. Thus, you can check your exam results across your user ID. የመሬት መንቀጥቀጥ መሰረተ ልማቶችን፣ ሞቶችን፣ አካላዊ ጉዳቶችን ከማስከተሉ ባለፈ የአእምሮ ጤናን ክፉኛ ሊጎዳዉ ይችላል፡፡ ተጎጂዎች የሰዉ ህይወት ከመቀጠፉ፣ ከማህበራዊና ኢኮኖሚያዊ ቀዉስ የተነሳ ለከፍተኛ ፍርሃትና ጫና ሊጋለጡ ይችላሉ፡፡ በተቃራኒዉ ደግም ሰዎች ተባብረዉ ከቆሙ አደጋ የተሻለ የአእምሮ ጤናና ጫናን የመቋቋም ብቃት ላይ ሊያደርሳቸዉም ይችላል፡፡

በሌላዉ ጎን ደግሞ የተፈጥሮ አደጋዎች ሰዎች ህይወታቸዉን ለማቆየት በጋራ የመቆም ዉስጣዊ ግፊታቸዉን በመቀስቀስ በትብብር እንዲቆሙ ሊያደርጓቸዉም ይችላሉ፡፡ ሰዎች ተባብረዉ ሲቆሙና ሲረዳዱ የአእምሮ ጤናቸዉ ይሻሻላል፣ ማህበራዊ ትስስራቸዉ ይጠናከራል፣ ጫናን የመቋቋም አቅማቸዉ ይጎለብታል፡፡ እንደማህበረሰብ በቀደመዉ ዘመን የገጠሟቸዉን ጣላቶች በጋራ ተባብረዉ እንደመከቷቸዉ ሁሉ በዚህ ዘመንም የሚገጥሟቸዉን አደጋዎች በመረዳት፣ በመረዳዳት፣ በመተሳሰብና በርህራሄ በመተያየት ሊቋቋሟቸዉ ይችላሉ፡፡ ከአደጋ ጋር የተያያዙ የአእምሮ ህመም ተጋላጭነቶችን ከሚቀንሱ ነገሮች ዋነኛዉ በጉዳቱ ዉስጥ ላለፉ ወይም እያለፉ ላሉ ሰዎች የሚደረግ ማህበራዊ ድጋፍ ነዉ፡፡ በዚህ ረገድ ብርቱና መልካም ባህል አለን፤ ባህላችን ሰዉ ለሰዉ መድኃኒቱ፤ ካንድ ብርቱ ሁለት መድኃኒቱ፤ ሀምሳ ሎሚ ለሀምሳ ሰዉ ጌጡ ለአንድ ሰዉ ሸክሙ እንደሆነ አስቀምጦልናል፡፡ እንደሰዉ ዘር መቀጠላችን የሚወሰነዉ በመተባበራችን ነዉና በዚህ ክፉ ጊዜ ልንረዳዳና ተያያዘን ልንቆም ይገባናል፡፡ አደጋን ታሳቢ ካደረገ እንክንብካቤ መመሪያዎች በመነሳት ባለፍንባቸዉም ሆነ በምናልፍባቸዉ ሰቀቀኖች የሚከተሉትን ነገሮች ብንተገብርና ብንለማመዳቸዉ በብዙ እናተርፋለን፡፡
ደህንነት
ሰዎች ዉጤታማ የሚሆኑትና በተሟላ አእምሯዊ ብቃት ላይ የሚሆኑት ደህንነት ሲሰማቸዉ ነዉ፡፡ ደህንነታቸዉ ሲናጋ በፍርሃትና ራስን በማዳን ሩጫ ይጠመዱና የሚጠቅማቸዉን ዉሳኔ አመዛዝኖ መወሰን ያቅታቸዋል፡፡ የሚመለከታቸዉ ሁሉ ከሁሉ በማስቀደም ለሰዉ ልጆች አካላዊ ደህንነት፣ስነልቦናዊ ደህንነት፣የስሜት ደህንነት፣ማህበራዊ ደህንነትና ሞራላዊ ደህንነት መጠንቀቅ ይኖርባቸዋል፡፡ በማንኛዉም ሁኔታ ዉስጥ ሲኮንና ሲታለፍ ለራስና ለሌሎች ደህንነት ንቁ መሆን የቅድሚያ ቅድሚያ ሊሆን ይገባዋል!
ታእማኒነትና ግልፀኝነት
አደጋዎች ሲኖሩ ብዙ ጥድፊያና ሩጫ መኖሩ የማይካድ ቢሆን የሚከወኑ ተግባራት ሰዎች እምነታቸዉን በሚጥሉበት መንገድ፣ ባልተሸፋፈና ግልፅ በሆነ መልክ ሊደረጉ ይገባቸዋል፡፡ እየሆኑ ስላሉ ጉዳዮች ከሚመለከታቸዉ ተቋማት ወቅታዊ መረጃ ፍሰቱን ጠብቆ መሄድ ይኖርበታል፡፡ እዉነተኛ መታመን እመኑን ከሚል የቃላት ጩኸት ሳይሆን ከተግባር ጥራት ብቻ የሚቀዳ መሆኑን እናስተዉል!
እርስ በርስ መደጋገፍ፣ መተባበር
የጋራ ታሪክ፣የጋራ ልምድና የጋራ ፈተና ያላቸዉ ሰዎች ህልዉናቸዉ የሚዘልቀዉ በጋራ መተባበርና መደጋገፍ ሲችሉ ነዉ፡፡ በሰዉ ልጅ ኑረት የአንዱ ህልዉና በሌላኛዉ ህልዉና ላይ የተመሰረተ ነዉና ከመገፋፋትና ከመጠፋፋት ይልቅ መደጋገፍን፣ መተባበርን፣ አብሮ መሰራትንና መገነባባትን የየዕለት ኑረታችን ማድረግ ግዴታችን ነዉ! ሌላኛዉ ወገናችን ሲሰቃይ ቆመን ካየን ነገ እኛ ስንሰቃይ የሚደርስልን አይኖርም፡፡ እንደጋገፍ! እንረዳዳ! እንተባበር! የተጎዱ ወገኖቻችንን ለማከም ሐኪም መሆን አይጠበቅብንም፤ ለሰዉ መድኃኒቱ ሰዉ ነዉና!
ትህትናና አለመፍረድ
ሰዉ እንደመሆናችን ባልገባንና ባልተረዳነዉ ጉዳይ በሌሎች ላይ ጣት ለመቀሰር ልንጣደፍ እንችላለን፡፡ ባህላቸዉን፣ ሀይማኖታቸዉን፣ ታሪካቸዉንና ልዩ ልዩ ልዩነቶቻችንን በማክበር በስቃይ ዉስጥ ከሚያልፉ ሰዎች ልምድ ለመማር መፍቀድና መዘጋጀት እንጂ ከኛ የተለየ ነገር ስለገጠማቸዉ ልንፈርድባቸዉ አይገባንም፡፡ ሰዎች በብዙ ስቃይ ዉስጥ የሚያልፉት ክፉ ስለሆኑ ወይም ፈጣሪ ስለፈረደባቸዉ ሳይሆን ስቃይ የህይወት አንዱ መልክ እንደሆነ እንረዳ፡፡ ከሰዉ ሰራሽ (መደፈር፣ፆታዊ ጥቃት፣ጦርነት፣ጠለፋ፣የእሳት አደጋ፣ግድያ፣የመኪና አደጋ…ወዘተ) ሆነ ከተፈጥሮ አደጋዎች (ጎርፍ፣የመሬት መንቀጥቀጥ፣ የመሬት መንሸራተት፣የመብረቅ አደጋ፣ርሃብና ድርቅ…ወዘተ) ጫና የተነሳ የሚረበሹ ሰዎችን ስናገኝ ወደ ባለሙያ እንላካቸዉ እንጂ አንፍረድባቸዉ! ማንም ከአደጋና ስቃይ የራቀ አይደለም!

ICAF is a research project aiming to develop solutions to support informed family planning decision-making from initial counseling through follow-up care and to produce and test innovative models for better integrating side effects counseling and follow-up support into contraceptive care.

Many contraceptive methods cause menstrual bleeding changes, a common side effect that some women find unacceptable, impacting contraceptive continuation and choice. Fear of infertility, sometimes linked to the misconception that contraception-induced amenorrhea signals infertility, further complicates contraceptive decisions. High-quality contraceptive counselling must address these concerns empathetically, supporting informed decision-making and method switching when necessary, and providing ongoing support for managing side effects. However, research on women's experiences with contraceptive side effects, particularly bleeding changes and infertility concerns, is limited, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. While studies suggest women desire more counselling on side effects and better management support, there's a lack of research exploring their specific preferences for such support. To address these gaps, ICAF has developed and is preparing to test a human-centred design intervention package in Ethiopia and Kenya aimed at improving support for women navigating these challenges.
Project background
ICAF's two-phase project first explored women's concerns about contraceptive side effects and preferences for counselling and follow-up care via in-depth interviews. This informed a human-centred design process, incorporating interviews, focus groups, a community advisory board, and prototype testing, to develop the "Mittin" intervention. The resulting intervention packages, including take-home materials, provider job aids, waiting room support, and call counselling, will be piloted and tested in public health facilities over the next two years.

3. Posters: There are two different posters, one with message on what to expect in contraceptive counselling room and a second one with message on services available at Mittin call centre.
4. FAQ sheet: This is a tool developed to help contraceptive clients remember and encourage to ask the most common question discussed with providers during contraceptive counselling.
5. Call agent counselling aid: This is a virtual counselling aid for use by Mittin call centre agents. The proposed design for this job is to create a pdf file with a click through futures, making conversation during virtual counselling efficient.

ICAF's two-phase project first explored women's concerns about contraceptive side effects and preferences for counselling and follow-up care via in-depth interviews. This informed a human-centred design process, incorporating interviews, focus groups, a community advisory board, and prototype testing, to develop the "Mittin" intervention. The resulting intervention packages, including take-home materials, provider job aids, waiting room support, and call counselling, will be piloted and tested in public health facilities over the next two years.

1. Survey research assistants: ICAF would like to hire qualified quantitative survey research assistants
Tasks and deliverable
The survey research assistant will
1. Recruit participants as per the ICAF protocol
2. Collect data using redcap at assigned survey sights.
3. Fill out facility observation form
4. Upload the collected data on the ICAF survey data base every day.
5. Communicate with the field supervisor daily using the ICAF daily reporting format
6. Keep all the ICAF data collection gadgets and equipment as per the provided instructions.
7. Perform all other related tasks assigned by the research
Required qualification
• Applicants should have BSC degree or above in health field including public health, nursing MD etc...
• Previous experience of Redcap and survey data collection are desirable

St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) was established through a decree of the council of ministers in 2010 although the hospital was set up in 1968 and the medical education began in 2007.It is now governed by a board under the federal ministry of health. The college initiated Ethiopia’s first integrated modular and hybrid problem-based curriculum for its undergraduate medical education, and is currently expanding to various postgraduate and fellowship programs.
Introduction
Many contraceptive methods cause menstrual bleeding changes, a common side effect that some women find unacceptable, impacting contraceptive continuation and choice. Fear of infertility, sometimes linked to the misconception that contraception-induced amenorrhea signals infertility, further complicates contraceptive decisions. High-quality contraceptive counselling must address these concerns empathetically, supporting informed decision-making and method switching when necessary, and providing ongoing support for managing side effects. However, research on women's experiences with contraceptive side effects, particularly bleeding changes and infertility concerns, is limited, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. While studies suggest women desire more counselling on side effects and better management support, there's a lack of research exploring their specific preferences for such support.
