We are pleased to announce that our own colleague Ayalnesh Zemene, from School of Nursing, has successfully defended her PhD dissertation entitle " Unintended pregnancy in Ethiopia: Predictors and Adverse Consequences on Maternal and Child Healthcare Utilization" and completed her PhD in Reproductive Health at Pan African University, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Stakeholders meeting was held at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in collaboration with Diabetes Africa to improve diabetes care in Ethiopia. Diabetes Africa, a non-profit organization headquartered in the UK. The meeting included representatives from Ethiopian Diabetic Association, CHAI, Ethiopian Nurse Association, and the Ministry of Health, as well as frontline workers and health centers under SPHMMC's catchment area. This gathering aimed to address the challenges of diabetes care and discuss initiatives to enhance services.
To have a lasting impact on diabetes care, Diabetes Africa and SPHMMC signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance diabetes care in Ethiopia, with a special focus on specialist nurses. The MoU marks a significant step forward in improving diabetes care.
The stakeholder meeting brought together frontline workers and health centers to launch this initaitves, marking the first milestone of many to come.

We mourn the untimely passing of Dr. Embaye Zibelo, a compassionate physician who was a final-year resident of Emergency and critical care medicine at our college. His sudden departure has left us with a profound sense of loss. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time. May his soul find eternal peace.
He was married and a father of two.

Hungary pledges to boost Surgical Campaigns in St Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College, AaBET hospital
A medical team named 'Hungary helps’ has provided St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College and its affiliated hospital AaBET with medical support via Surgical Campaigns. The Surgical Campaign is highly presumed to be instrumental in addressing the surgical needs of some selected patients.
The campaign took place from May 27 until June 7, 2024. The surgical campaign in this round was focused in Neurosurgery and ENT specialties.
Two experienced male neurosurgeons and two female otolaryngologists with a member from anaesthesia were involved in the clinical service. There were also members involved in coordination and assessing the social impact.
There were 11 neurosurgical cases in skull base surgery operated within these periods. Surgery carries its own risk of complications and these cases of skull base neurosurgery were deemed as challenging cases with high risk of complications.
There were 53 cases operated by the ENT team in collaboration with the local ENT surgeons.Ensured quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all is another mission to be hit. Surgical skills are better transferred in a hands-on approach. Such surgical campaigns offer great opportunities for training numerous professionals in different specialties. The knowledge and experience of these surgeons would be passed to local surgeons, nurses and residents. There is also the experience gained by the Hungarian surgeons in practice in Ethiopian setting, where resources are limited. This is a bilateral exchange of knowledge and expertise. Endoscopic ear surgery and Trans nasal orbital surgery were important lessons learnt.
The Hungary Ambassador to Ethiopia, his excellence Mr Attila Koppány, , does have a great role in initiating Hungary medical professionals and is highly attributable to the coming of Hungary physicians to Ethiopia thereby providing the people with voluntary service.
