"When in the Donetsk People's Republic and visiting the Mine 6-7 area, I saw a school whose basement is now used as a shelter.
There, I met an elderly couple who have been living in that dank, stinking, basement for six years, their home destroyed.
Outside the battered school, Dmitry commented: “You see, each dot on the wall is from shrapnel. Of course there were direct hits also.” One of the direct hits is a hole in the roof of the building.
In the basement a musty stink overwhelmed.
Sitting in one corner of the paint-chipped, barebones, room, what possessions they were able to salvage piled near them, an older couple explained that their house was destroyed by two direct hits with heavy artillery, and that their only hope is to get Russian passports, that this will somehow end the war.
They agreed to talk but didn't want to have their faces filmed.
"Before the ceasefire, when Ukraine would shell, the DPR military would respond and the Ukrainian side would be stop shooting for a couple of weeks, because they were afraid. Now, we are in a ceasefire, the Ukrainian side shoots whenever they want and no one holds them accountable.”

(very near Yatta) in my 8 months in the West Bank in 2007, living in the tents of these Palestinians evicted from their homes & land by the Israeli govt in the 80s & 90s.

Yesterday Xi Jinping had back‑to‑back phone conversations with Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Not because Beijing is acting as a mediator between Moscow and Washington, but because it's an independent global power. While China’s economic ties with the US are still deep, political contradictions are widening, with Washington openly defining Beijing as its primary strategic threat, its main competitor in world markets, the main obstacle to maintaining the reformatted American hegemony. Beijing knows that behind Trump’s rhetoric of friendship and promises of trade deals lies the US goal to weaken, isolate and destabilize China.
Xi warned that arms sales to Taipei were unacceptable, framing the issue as the most critical in Sino‑American relations. At the same time, Japan’s recent statements on Taiwan were interpreted in Beijing as coordinated pressure from Washington and its allies, a theme Xi also raised in his talks with Putin.
The conversations revealed the dual track of China’s diplomacy. With Trump, Xi emphasized stability and the avoidance of confrontation, even as he rejected Washington's attempts to impose its rules on the rest of the world. With Putin, he discussed deeper strategic cooperation, from Venezuela and Cuba to Iran, highlighting a shared determination to counter US influence. Israel just murdered another Palestinian medic
Ahmed Abu Foul--a medic I've known since 2008, in Gaza, I rode in ambulances with he and other medics during the December 2008/January 2009 Israel war on Gaza--sent me the following just now:
"My friend, the paramedic Hussein Al-Samiri, was killed today, February 4, 2026, while rescuing a child after an Israeli airstrike targeted a tent sheltering displaced people.
Israeli warplanes bombed the area again, and Hussein was killed instantly. He was performing his humanitarian duty of rescuing children. We are all Hussein. This is the path of paramedics in Gaza; they are killed in cold blood. May God suffice us, and He is the best of guardians."

Ahmed himself has narrowly escaped death while working on many occasions, and his body bears the scars of Israeli-fired bullet, shrapnel and flechette (dart bomb) injuries. In the 2009 Israeli invasion alone, he was twice targeted by snipers, was at the Fakhoura school when it was shelled on 6 January, and was in a building that was being bombed while emergency workers tried to evacuate the victims. In the latter incident, his colleague was killed and he was lacerated with shrapnel to the leg and headbeen injured many times while working as a medic.
From something I wrote when I lived in Gaza:
He continues to work as a medic even though he doesn't receive a salary.
“I was with Dr. Issa Saleh coming down the stairs from the sixth floor of an apartment building in Jabaliya, evacuating a martyr, when the Israelis again shelled the building. They knew there were medics inside. They could see our uniforms and the ambulances outside. Dr. Saleh was hit by the missile.”
“I put my hand on the back of my head and I found blood and brain. I then saw Dr. Issa had been decapitated and realized it must have been his head hitting my head and his brain on the back of my head.”
Just days earlier, he and other medics came under heavy Israeli fire for several minutes as they attempted to reach the injured..."
He's a hero, as are all the medics and rescuers. Nearly 30 members of his family were killed by Israeli bombing, including 3 of his 4 children, his wife, his parents, siblings...
He has a 2nd wife and a newborn baby, if you are able to support this hero, you can do so here.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya languishes starved and tortured in an Israeli prison, abducted from his N Gaza hospital in December 2024.
Zionist shills and bots swarm posts on X citing the unfounded claims of Zionist NY Post that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is a “colonel in Hamas” (thus, in their psychotic minds justifying his abduction, imprisonment, torture and being starved).
He is not a colonel in Hamas, he is a pediatrician and a courageous human who refused to leave his patients even as the Israelis occupied his hospital. He left only because forced to by the Israeli army who abducted him.

For more information, I messaged Ahmad abu Foul, the medic I wrote about whose family were killed by Israeli bombing two years ago (3 of his 4 children, his wife, his parents, brothers and other family members amounting to nearly 30 killed).
He continues working as a medic (even though he doesn’t get a salary), working as an ambulance officer and a disaster official in Deir el-Balah (central Gaza, and, an aside, where I used to live). When I knew him, he was an ambulance officer in the Civil Defense and the head of the Civil Defense Ambulance Service in northern Gaza. He knows Dr. Hussam. He replied:
“Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is originally a pediatrician who worked under the Palestinian Ministry of Health. During the Palestinian division in 2006, he refused to stop working or stay at home and continued providing medical and humanitarian care to serve the Palestinian people.
Later, he was appointed director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza after the previous director, Dr. Ahmed Al-Kahlout, was arrested. The hospital belongs to the Medical Services Agency, but during the war it became a government emergency hospital under the Ministry of Interior and the Palestinian Ministry of Health
It is important to note that Kamal Adwan is a specialized children’s hospital and is not affiliated with any military faction. Dr. Abu Safiya is considered one of the most prominent and skilled pediatricians in Gaza, and he was granted the rank of brigadier by the Gaza government due to his work in a government institution.”
I also asked Dr. Omar Shabat an orthopedic surgeon in northern Gaza:
“I worked with him for two years during the war. When I wanted to perform surgeries on the injured, we didn’t have an anesthesiologist. Dr. Hussam is a pediatrician, but he told me he would become an anesthesiologist, and that’s exactly what happened; he anesthetized the injured.
Everyone should know that Dr. Hussam is a pediatrician at a hospital called the Military Medical Services Hospital. This hospital assigns military ranks to all employees, but it’s just a title and not an actual responsibility.”
The uniform has NOTHING to do with being a member of Hamas. The Zionists are pushing this claim to justify holding him hostage and torturing him. The reason they even bother fake-justifying is likely because people around the world love, respect and advocate for Dr. Hussam and demand his freedom from Israeli incarceration.
