Israel Preparing 'Target Bank' For Attacks On Yemen After Failure Of US Campaign

Tel Aviv recently failed in an attempt to assassinate the Yemeni army’s Chief of Staff Mohammad Abd al-Karim al-Raghmari

Israel is preparing a “target bank” for a large-scale campaign against the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) and Ansarallah movement, Hebrew news outlet Walla reported on 24 August.

According to the report, the Mossad and Israel’s military intelligence are working to compile a large “target bank” to strike at Ansarallah’s “key centers of gravity.”

Officials are saying that Israel must collect many targets which could be simultaneously struck, aimed at inflicting severe damage – “unlike the recent US operation, which failed to decisively weaken the Houthis.”

The report notes that there was already a failed Israeli attempt to assassinate Mohammad Abd al-Karim al-Raghmari, the YAF’s Chief of Staff.

“Despite Israeli military officials admitting in recent months that striking the Houthis is difficult—since most of their key centers lie underground and some are unknown to Israeli intelligence—political sources insist that ‘the Houthis are defeatable,’” Walla added.

⭕ EU criticizes US sanctions on ICC officials

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas voiced “deep regret” over Washington’s decision to sanction two ICC judges and two deputy prosecutors, warning it could affect ongoing investigations.

"The EU once again deeply regrets the decision… This decision may impact the functioning of the Office of the Prosecutor and ongoing investigations,” she said in a statement.

Kallas affirmed the bloc’s “firm” support for the Court, stressing: “Attacks or threats against the Court, elected officials, personnel and those cooperating with the Court are not acceptable. The ICC must be able to work independently and impartially.

”She urged states to ensure “full cooperation” with the ICC and said Brussels is monitoring the sanctions’ impact and may take “further steps.”

Pentagon Begins Sudden Troop Withdrawal From Major Iraq Bases: Report

The US has maintained a military presence in Iraq under the pretext of fighting ISIS, despite Washington's covert support for the organization

US forces have begun their withdrawal from two major military bases in Iraq, accelerating a previously negotiated timeline for the drawdown of International Coalition troops, Iraqi Kurdish media reported on 24 August.

According to a high-level source in the Iraqi government speaking with Kurdistan24, the withdrawal began Sunday morning following an order issued by the US Embassy.

The source stated that the Ain al-Asad base in Anbar and the Victory base at Baghdad International Airport are expected to be completely evacuated within the next few days.

The source added that some 2,000 US troops have been stationed at Ain al-Asad, a key hub for US operations in the country.

An Iraqi security source speaking with Shafaq News had provided a longer timeline for the withdrawal from Ain al-Asad, stating last week that the last US soldier would leave the base by 15 September, after which the international coalition headquarters there would be permanently closed.

Journalist Publicly Quits Reuters Over Gaza ‘Culpability’

Valerie Zink has accused Western outlets of perpetuating Israeli propaganda and contributing to the deaths of dozens of reporters

Canadian photojournalist Valerie Zink has resigned as a Reuters stringer after eight years, alleging the agency has been “justifying and enabling” Israel’s killing of journalists in Gaza, including members of its own staff.

Her announcement came hours after an Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Monday, the largest medical facility in southern Gaza, that killed at least 20 people, including five journalists, according to local health officials.

In a Facebook post, Zink accused Reuters and other Western media of amplifying unverified Israeli claims linking reporters to Hamas militants, arguing that this has contributed to conditions in which dozens of journalists have been killed since October 2023.

She cited the case of Anas al-Sharif, a prominent Al Jazeera reporter, who was killed with his crew in Gaza City earlier this month.

”Reuters chose to publish Israel’s entirely baseless claim that al-Sharif was a Hamas operative,” she wrote. Prior to the attack, the Israeli military alleged al-Sharif was a Hamas commander but provided no evidence.

The fact that Anas Al-Sharif’s work won a Pulitzer Prize for Reuters did not compel them to come to his defence when Israeli occupation forces placed him on a hit list,” she added.

Zink also criticized Reuters’ response to the killing of its own staff, noting that cameraman Hossam al-Masri was among those killed at Nasser Hospital.

Western media, she said, were “culpable” by repeating Israeli claims without verification, acting as “a conveyor belt for Israeli propaganda.”

The number of journalists killed in Gaza since 2023 has now reached 245, according to press freedom groups.
