Iran Orders Chinese Materials For 'Hundreds Of Ballistic Missiles': Report

Washington announced sanctions last month targeting Chinese firms it said were aiding the Iranian ballistic missile program

Iran has reportedly ordered thousands of tons of ingredients necessary for the development of ballistic missiles from China, sources cited by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on 5 June claimed.

The sources said Tehran plans to beef up its military arsenal as it engages in nuclear talks with Washington.

“Shipments of ammonium perchlorate are expected to reach Iran in the coming months and could fuel hundreds of ballistic missiles … Some of the material would likely be sent to militias in the region aligned with Iran, including Houthis in Yemen,” they added.

According to the sources, an Iranian company, Pishgaman Tejarat Rafi Novin Co., has ordered the ballistic missile ingredients from Hong Kong-based Lion Commodities Holdings Ltd. in recent months.

The two firms, as well as Iran’s UN representative, did not comment on the report. A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Beijing had no knowledge of the contract.

The open letter circulated by 160 Israeli authors, academics and intellectuals ignores that the ongoing war in Gaza has been a war of annihilation from its inception

"Netanyahu is not Israel – his government does not represent us!" That was the headline of an open letter against the war in the Gaza Strip that was released on May 30. It was signed by 160 Israeli authors, academics and intellectuals, and since then, thousands more have signed...

The people behind the letter immediately translated it into English and sent it to media outlets overseas. Apparently, that was so people overseas – those who aren't antisemites, of course – would know that despite everything, justice is on our side. That on October 7, 2023, in a complete surprise that came out nowhere (that is, out of Gaza, or in other words, out of the jail/ghetto we built for its residents), "human animals" came to slaughter their neighbors, residents of the western Negev.

After that, we launched a just war against those who barbarically – with their own hands, face-to-face – murdered babies, mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, entire families. We fought with great intensity and we didn't let up. For 19 months, we bombed, shelled, destroyed, razed, killed and expelled. And nevertheless, according to the open letter, this war was justified.

But then, the letter implies, something changed utterly. "The war that began on March 18 with Israel's violation of the cease-fire and its failure to comply with the agreement to release the hostages is not the same just war that we set out to wage on October 7 after the horrific massacre in the communities of the western Negev. ... A war in which more than 15,600 children have been killed is immoral," it said, while declining to explain that most of these children were killed in the initial war we launched on October 7, 2023, along with their mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers.

After all, this war was a war of annihilation from its inception, 19 months earlier, with massive airstrikes by air force pilots and drones that dropped bombs weighing almost a ton from afar (in modern wars, we no longer kill face-to-face), and even more so once the ground operation began. And in fact, this war had goals other than military victory.

Increasingly, it was waged in the spirit of the calls from senior politicians, ministers and Knesset members, as well as generals, to destroy Gaza – to flatten, uproot, kill, starve, seize control and even establish Jewish settlements there. And thus, long before March 18, the entire Gaza Strip – cities and towns, residential neighborhoods, refugee camps, tilled fields, orchards – had become a wasteland over which death hovered constantly.

An investigation reveals how a cyberattack exploited soldiers' vulnerabilities and may have changed the course of the Syrian conflict

The Syrian army’s failure to repel a modest opposition attack on Aleppo in December, which ultimately culminated in the collapse of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, defies explanation.

The opposition’s military strength and its use of drones were contributing factors, no doubt, but they were hardly enough. The Syrian army had previously reclaimed vast swaths of territory from rebel forces. By the summer of 2024, Assad’s government controlled two-thirds of the country. The sudden unraveling and the conventional explanations behind it belie what unfolded beneath the surface of the military event itself.

In a previous interview with New Lines, a high-ranking Syrian officer, who recounted the final days of the regime’s existence, disclosed a revealing detail that I decided to spend some time pursuing. A closer examination revealed it to be the key to understanding the regime’s collapse from a different angle, not merely as a logistical or battlefield failure, but as the result of a silent, invisible war.

The snippet of information was this: A mobile application, distributed quietly among Syrian officers via a Telegram channel, had spread rapidly in their ranks. In truth, the app was a carefully planted trap, the opening salvo of a hidden cyberwar — perhaps one of the first of its kind against a modern army. Militias had weaponized smartphones, turning them into lethal instruments against a regular military force.

Beyond revealing the contours of a cyberattack against the Syrian army, this investigation seeks to understand the application itself, its technology and reach, and to uncover the nature of the information it siphoned from within military ranks. This, in turn, leads directly to the potential impact on Syria’s military operations.

The larger question remains: Who orchestrated the cyberattack, and to what end?

The jury for Sean “Diddy” Combs ’ sex trafficking trial heard audio of one of the rapper’s alleged “freak offs,” recorded on a phone and played for the court on Thursday, June 5. (The rapper has pleaded not guilty to all charges.)

In the recording, a man identified as a male escort can be heard allegedly having sex with the woman who is testifying as Jane Doe. At one point, Jane asked the escort to look for a condom, at which point Diddy, 55, seemed to interrupt.

“What are you guys doing?” he asked. “What do you guys want?”

“You promised,” Jane replied.

“You are just taking that d***,” Diddy said, later adding, “If you don’t touch yourself right now … ”

Jane, who was present in the courtroom when the audio was played, clarified that at that point in the recording, “my understanding was that my request was denied and that I should move on.”

Washington Sanctions ICC Judges Over Gaza Genocide Probe

Four judges were targeted for authorizing investigations into US and Israeli war crimes, as Washington escalates its campaign to cripple the court

On 5 June, the US government imposed sanctions on four International Criminal Court (ICC) judges over their role in investigations into war crimes by US and Israeli forces.

The US State Department said the sanctions freeze any assets the judges hold in the country and ban them from any transactions involving US citizens or institutions, cutting them off from the US financial and legal system. This includes a ban on US banks, companies, or individuals from sending money, offering services, or cooperating with the judges through international bodies.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the sanctions in a written statement, accusing the ICC of overstepping its authority and threatening the sovereignty of the US and Israel.

The ICC responded by condemning the move as an attack on its independence. It said the sanctions undermine efforts to hold war criminals accountable.

“Targeting those working for accountability does nothing to help civilians trapped in conflict. It only emboldens those who believe they can act with impunity,” the court said.

NATO Chief: Russia Could Be Ready To Fight The West In Five Years

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that Russia could launch an attack on the bloc within five years. He called on members to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP.

Speaking at the British Chatham House think tank, Rutte told the audience, “Russia could be ready to use military force against NATO within five years. Five years. Let’s not kid ourselves, we are all on the Eastern flank now.” He continued, “There is no longer East or West – there is just NATO.”

Rutte argued that to combat the supposed threat from Russia, NATO states must boost military spending to 5% of their GDP, adding “3.5% will be invested in our core military requirements. While the rest will go towards defence and security-related investments, including infrastructure and building industrial capacity.” He went on to say that “5% is not some figure plucked from the air, it is grounded in hard facts.”

President Donald Trump has also called for NATO to increase its minimum defense spending level to 5% of GDP. The current requirement is 2%, and only 23 of 32 members meet that threshold.

Spain and Italy will hit the minimum level for the first time this year, while Canada is not expected to spend more than 2% of its GDP on defense until 2027.

US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker restated that demand last week. “We are currently negotiating within the North Atlantic Council the timelines and what’s included in the 5%, both from a core defense standpoint and also defense-related and security-related spending,” he said Wednesday. He added that member states must rapidly ramp up spending to reach that goal.

According to NATO statistics, in 2024, only Poland spent over 4% of GDP on its military. Four countries, including the US, spend over 3% on defense. For the US, this would mean spending $1.45 trillion annually on the war budget.
