The upcoming Mega Evolution feature is set to launch soon. Here's what we know so far:

• Mega Evolution will be temporary and you can only have one Mega Evolved Pokémon at a time
• Mega Evolution will require species specific Mega Energy from Mega Raids (a unique Raid Tier)
• The Pokémon caught from a Mega Raid will be that Pokémon's normal form.
• After you've unlocked a Pokémon's Mega Evolution, the Mega Evolution cost will be reduced the next time you mega evolve that Pokémon.
• There will be a Mega section in the PokéDex to track your Megas.
• Mega Pokémon will boost the attack power of all other Pokémon battling in raids. Pokémon with the same type will receive an even greater attack boost.
• Mega Pokémon cannot be used as Gym Defenders.
• At launch, Mega Pokémon cannot be used in GO Battle League.
• Shadow and Clone Pokémon cannot be Mega Evolved.
• Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise will be available at launch and be available to challenge in Mega Raids.
• Mega Beedrill will bee also available through a new Special Research, 'A Mega Discovery'.

Along with the Mega Evolution Feature, there are some updates to raids:

• 2-Star and 4-Star Raids will be removed
• 1-Star raids will have 2-Star raid rewards, and 3-Star Raids will have 4-star raid rewards.
• The goal here is to make it easier to find desirable raids
• The Team Damage Bonus will be removed and replaced with a speed bonus that will grant more rewards the faster you and your fellow raiders complete a raid.
• Raids will consist of 1-Star, 3-Star, 5-Star, and Mega Raids

• Energy Earned from Mega Raids has been increased as follows:

0:30 or less - 55 -> 90
1:15 - 0:31 - 50 -> 80
2:30 - 1:16 - 45 -> 70
3:45 - 2:31 - 40 -> 60
5:00 - 3:46 - 35 -> 50

In the future, Niantic plans on making the following adjustments:

• Walking with your buddy to earn Mega Energy
• More ways to earn Mega Energy through research tasks and other gameplay
• Earning bonus Candy when catching Pokémon that share a type with your Mega-Evolved Pokémon

You can also earn Venusaur Mega Energy from Field Research and an upcoming Timed Research in an Event in November.

In early November there will be updates to the Mega Evolution Feature. You’ll be able to do the following:

• Earn Mega Energy by walking with your Buddy Pokémon if you have previously Mega Evolved a Pokémon in your Buddy Pokémon’s Evolutionary line.
• Earn additional Candies when you have an active Mega-Evolved Pokémon and you catch a Pokémon that shares a type with your Mega-Evolved Pokémon. You will also earn additional Candies when catching a Raid Boss, regardless of its type.
• See Trainers on your friend list who currently have a Mega-Evolved Pokémon.
