Regarding the situation in Syria, the Syrian army offensive combined with the Arab tribe uprising in Deir Ezzor mean that the SDF might face a choice if thing truly became critical.
I am so far unsure if the Syrian force will take the risk to fully reconquer SDF-held territory but if they do the SDF will have to abandon territory and choose between defending their western territory and the eastern part.
The reason is simple, it’s a lot of land and the SDF don’t have enough troops for that, especially since they are a Kurdish-led group ruling over an area composed at 80% of Arabs who will not side with them over the government.
