For decades, there was a tradition that Christian institutions in Jerusalem do not pay property taxes. This started all the way back during the Ottoman period, and continued during British-ruled Mandatory Palestine.

This tradition has now been overruled, per an Israeli court decision on August 6th. Christians already paid taxes in Israel, but churches and seminaries were exempt — that has now officially been overturned.

NOTE: Per Israeli law, synagogues continue to pay zero property taxes. As of now, only mosques and churches are obligated to pay the Arnona tax, in a country that claims to treat all religions equally.
