Islamists expand offensive in Syria

Islamist militias, such as HTS and SNA, have expanded their offensive in north-western Syria. They are now said to be attacking not only the Syrian army west of the megacity of Aleppo, but also the Shehba region further north, which belongs to the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds who were displaced by the occupation of Afrin in 2018 live there.

During the night, militias allied with Turkey are said to be firing artillery at positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The first battles are said to have already taken place on the ground along the front line. Turkey also carried out air strikes on Tel Rifaat in Shehba and Ain Issa further east.

The SDF began to send reinforcements to the Manbij region during the night, although Shehba is an enclave trapped between Turkish-occupied areas and regime areas.

In Kurdish history, the invaders have often used chemical weapons against the Kurdish people. One of the biggest chemical weapons disasters was the Halabja chemical attack in which 5,000 people lost their lives. On the other hand, the Turkish state is still using chemical weapons in South Kurdistan.

Chemical weapons have been used in many wars and conflicts in the world. It was used for the first time in 1915’ in the first world war. As a result, about 91 thousand people died and one million people were injured.

While large parts of the city of Aleppo have already fallen, many civilians have found refuge in the self-governing district of Sheikh Maqsoud. Meanwhile, the self-defense forces in the self-governed districts are preparing for resistance and the population is cleaning their weapons. Shouts of “Biji Berxwedana Sheikh Maqsoud” (Long live the resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud) and “An Serkeftin An Serkeftin” (success and nothing but success) are heard everywhere. Similarly, columns of the YPG and YPJ reached the city on Friday evening and were greeted by applauding people.

According to the situation, all democratic and revolutionary forces should get ready just like the people of Sheik Maqsoud and the defense forces of the revolution and be prepared for any eventuality!

War in Syria: who are the HTS and SNA?

A new large-scale operation has been launched in northern Syria by the armed forces of the SNA and the HTS in the direction of the city of Aleppo, Syria's second largest city after the capital Damascus.
The mercenaries, directly supported by Turkey, have already taken possession of dozens of villages and towns and taken control of part of Aleppo.
While the Western media talk of anti-Assad ‘rebels’ or even ‘revolutionaries’, it is important to ask ourselves: SNA and HTS: jihadists or rebels?
