𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐎𝐔’𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐢 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐎𝐔), in an innovative effort to up-skill its faculty members across disciplines, concluded its final day of the two-day 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 (FDP 5) on ‘Innovative Teaching and Learning’ from 𝟗𝐭𝐡 to 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 of 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 at the 𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐂, 𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐎𝐔 HQs.

The event was organised under the patronage of 𝐇𝐨𝐧’𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐔𝐦𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐥, with dedicated efforts from the 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 led by Prof. Nayantara Padhi (Director, Special Project Unit, IGNOU). The FDP focused on equipping university faculty with advanced skills and pedagogical strategies for effective digital-age teaching.

Leveraging the 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 approach through 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐠𝐲, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐳𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐢 (Leipzig University) focused on prototyping, testing, and implementation planning on the final day, enabling participants to transform creative concepts into practical, classroom-ready designs. The day commenced with a score-based outdoor activity that reinforced the concepts covered on day one. Later, participants worked in groups to develop prototypes of their gamified course structures, applying principles of learner engagement and instructional design. The ‘Prototype Testing’ session encouraged peer-to-peer learning, where each group presented its design and conducted short user experience tests with fellow participants. This interactive exchange generated valuable feedback and insights. In the afternoon session, the focus shifted to ‘Iteration’ and ‘Roadmap Design’. Groups refined their prototypes based on the feedback and finalised their gamified learning experiences. Each team also developed a clear classroom implementation roadmap, which was visualised through structured presentations.

The day concluded with Final Presentations, showcasing innovative and learner-centric gamified experiences developed during the program. The FDP came to a close with a Valedictory Session honored by the benign presence of 𝐇𝐨𝐧’𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞-𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐔𝐦𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐥, who appreciated the collaborative efforts of 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐆𝐈𝐙) and 𝐋𝐞𝐢𝐩𝐳𝐢𝐠 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 with 𝐈𝐆𝐍𝐎𝐔 for conducting a resourceful Faculty Development Program. Addressing the participants, she remarked, “IGNOU is transitioning from ‘Open Distance Learning’ to ‘𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠’. ODDL promotes greater learner engagement. Designing interactive resources is crucial today, and integrating game-based learning is one promising strategy. In higher education, we need to move beyond simple quizzes and develop serious game-based learning approaches. Upon completing the FDP, faculty should design scenario-based learning activities while exploring relevant tools. All participants are encouraged to adopt a ‘𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠’ approach in their course modules.” While presenting the certificates, Prof. Kanjilal also encouraged the participants by stating that “we should strive to become world leaders in the ODDL system and create an environment of holistic digital learning. The time has come for each participant to emerge as a leader in digital learning in the near future.”

The FDP proved to be a milestone in transforming teaching-learning practices. ‘𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧’, when thoughtfully designed, has the potential to enhance learner engagement and make education more inclusive, interactive, and impactful. The closing remarks by Prof. Nayantara Padhi marked the successful completion of the two-day Faculty Development Programme.
