🔺The word “paparazzi” has roots in Italian cinema. The term debuted in Federico Fellini’s 1960 film “La Dolce Vita,” where a persistent photographer named Paparazzo is always chasing celebrities for the perfect shot.
Fellini chose the name Paparazzo because it sounded right, possibly inspired by a dialect word for a buzzing insect.

🔺After the film, “paparazzo” and its plural “paparazzi” became the go-to terms for celebrity-chasing photographers, making their way into everyday language across the globe.

🌟 In some English-speaking countries (mostly in the US) the word "faculty" is used to refer to the professors and tutors who work in the university. That's why Russian "факультет" is not always equivalent to the English term "faculty". However, English universities name their structural divisions "faculties" (e.g. the Faculty of History in Oxford) just like their Russian counterparts.

🌟 To vote or not to vote...

✉️ While this isn't a rule in the U.S., in Australia, it's actually illegal not to vote! If you don’t participate in their elections, you get fined. Though there have been discussions in the U.S. about compulsory voting, the idea has never gained significant traction.

🎮 For example, Ubisoft, a major videogame developer, lost 83% of its market value because of putting too much emphasis on diversity. The company hired women and members of sexual and racial minorities, discriminating against more qualified male candidates, which led to poor productivity and financial loss.

🥧To eat humble pie

🔺Back in the 14th century, after hunting parties returned home, the lords and other important men were offered the finest cuts of meat, while men of lower social stature were offered the entrails of the animals.

🔺These entrails were known as “numbles,” a term that was shortened to “umbles” by the 15th century. Often, the “umbles” (pronounced as “humble”) were baked into pies and served to the low-class men who considered it a humiliation. That’s how the idiom “to eat humble pie” came about.

🔺Today, it means to accept that you are wrong and to apologize.

🎩 The simile "as mad as a hatter" is believed to have originated in the 19th century and is often associated with the effects of mercury (ртуть) poisoning, which was common in the hat-making industry. Hatters used mercury nitrate in the process of felting wool, which often led to brain damage and symptoms that resembled madness. The phrase gained popularity partly due to Lewis Carroll's character, the Mad Hatter, in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," published in 1865.
