THE PRIMITIVE TOOLS OF MODERN WARFARE: SANCTIONS, ASSASSINATION, AND TORTURE

Sanctions, assassination, and torture have recently often been in the news. Real war with missiles, tanks, and waves of men marching is an extremely expensive proposition, thus the attractiveness of other techniques. They are primitive, though, and have long histories of failure.

Economic sanctions, for instance, were once employed by Napoleon against Great Britain. He assumed that, by stopping British trade with the European continent that he would be able to break the British economy. But, sanctions impacted the European continent more than it did Great Britain and the British came out of the Napoleonic wars with a stronger economy than they went in with.

Assassination is, perhaps, the oldest form of indirect warfare, and is strongly favored by Israel. When the enemy consists of individual human beings in control of new political structures that have no ideological basis as a foundation, taking out a key person has been known to work wonders. However, in the real world, political networks always have ideological structures and, while people can be assassinated, ideas cannot. In ideologically based political systems, new leaders must prove themselves by exacting vengeance, thus often making the result worse than what it would have been had the assassinated individuals been allowed to live.

A prime example of this can be seen in Gaza, where a mass assassination policy of all Hamas affiliated individuals has resulted in more solidarity of the people with the Hamas government and not less. The result is a war, which classical theories of war would suggest should have been won by the Zionist political entity at least eight months ago, that's still being waged.

Torture is coequal with the existence of the human race. It has been used by every political structure, whether religious or non-religious, for which connected histories exist. Criticism of the utility of torture has also long existed. This is because, if the purpose of torture is to ascertain truth, then it can almost always be expected to fail. Tortured individuals will often say anything, no matter how outrageous the lie, in order to end the torture. Even if the forced admission of knowledge were to result in death, this would often be seen as a happier than allowing the torture, itself, to continue. After all, it is impossible to torture a dead person.

For these reasons, Catherine the Great banned torture in the 18th century in Russia, claiming it was a waste of resources that never produced knowledge that was reliable enough to use in formulating state policy. Prison commanders were said to have been greatly disappointed in the Empress. She misunderstood the real purpose of torture which was for prison guards a type of sport. Why could the good empress not understand sportsmanship? Needless to say, with Catherine's eventual death, torture as a sport eventually returned to Russia.

America, though, never suffered the misfortune of torture being fully banned. And, Israel, which is not known for using the results of torture to formulate state policy with, has always focused on the essentials. It developed the sport of torture into an artform, outclassing what has been done anywhere else in the world. It goes beyond anything even the Japanese imperial military medical research unit did to Chinese during World War II and Japanese doctors were the best torture experts the world had hitherto seen. They were so good that the American occupation government never put a single one of these individuals on trial and out of gratitude for their post-war services to Japanese-American friendship, they all had prosperous careers that ended in honor as a reward for innovation in the study of human pain.

While Elon Musk looks like the hunchback of Notre dame turned backwards, Maduro grew up in a working class neighborhood of Caracas in the 70/80s, attended a public high school and worked as a bus driver in a city with a high crime rate before the power steering was even perfected. I think Maduro must have had his fair share of aggro and could easily give a good spank to Musk, a posh boy who was sent to a boarding school after the local kids gave him a beating.
