🚀 Dota 2 YouTube Channel Briefly Hacked to Promote Fraudulent Token

According to PANews, the official Dota 2 YouTube channel was briefly hacked on Wednesday, leading to the promotion of a fraudulent token based on Solana, named dota2coin, through a deceptive live stream. There is currently no evidence of user data being compromised. Decrypt confirmed the existence of the video through log records. The live stream, titled 'Dota 2 Official Launches Meme Coin | Join Now,' included a link to the PumpFun token, which redirected back to the Dota 2 official channel. As of the time of writing, the market value of the meme coin has dropped to approximately $5,500, a decline of about 21% since its launch. On-chain data reveals that the token was created within hours of the attack, with a bonding curve progress of less than 3%, and over 98% of the token supply concentrated in a single wallet. Users on the r/DotA2 subreddit quickly documented the attack, sharing screenshots of the fake token promotion and warning others not to participate. Additionally, users reported that PGL, a Romanian esports organizer responsible for hosting Valve-authorized Dota 2 events, also fell victim to a hacking incident.

🚀 South Korean Court Upholds Sentence for Crypto Exchange Employee in Espionage Case

According to PANews, the South Korean Supreme Court has upheld a four-year prison sentence for a cryptocurrency exchange employee involved in an espionage case. The employee was found guilty of assisting North Korean hackers in recruiting a South Korean army captain to exchange military secrets for Bitcoin. The employee received $487,000 in Bitcoin from the hackers and paid the captain $33,500 in Bitcoin as compensation.

The court ruled that the employee violated the National Security Act, posing a threat to national security. The involved army captain had previously been sentenced to ten years in prison and fined for breaching the Military Secrets Protection Act. Investigations revealed that North Korean hackers instructed the employee to provide the captain with a "watch-shaped hidden camera" and a USB hacking device intended for use on military laptops to remotely access the Korea-U.S. Joint Command Control System, although the attempt was unsuccessful.

🚀 Web3 Security Challenges: Majority of Hacked Crypto Projects Fail to Recover

According to BlockBeats, on January 18, Web3 security platform Immunefi's CEO Mitchell Amador highlighted that nearly 80% of crypto projects that suffer major hacking incidents never fully recover. He noted that most protocols lack awareness of their vulnerability to hacking and are unprepared for significant security events.

Amador emphasized that the initial hours following a breach are often the most destructive. Without a pre-established incident response plan, teams may hesitate, debate next steps, and underestimate the impact of the breach. This period is critical for preventing additional losses.

Due to concerns over reputational damage, project teams often hesitate to pause smart contracts and fail to communicate effectively with users. Silence can exacerbate panic rather than contain the issue. The primary reason for the failure to recover for nearly 80% of hacked projects is not the initial financial loss but the collapse of operational and trust systems during the response process.

🚀 AI's Impact on Cryptocurrency Transactions Projected to Surge by 2025

TRM Labs has released a report highlighting the significant influence of artificial intelligence on digital financial transactions. According to ChainCatcher, the report predicts that illegal cryptocurrency flows will reach $158 billion by 2025, with AI-driven scams experiencing an annual growth rate of approximately 500%.

The report emphasizes that autonomous AI agents have drastically reduced the time required for money laundering and cross-chain asset transfers. These agents can obscure the trail of funds within seconds by automating the splitting of funds, selecting optimal bridging paths, and executing exchanges on decentralized platforms.

Overall, the report forecasts that 150 hacking incidents in 2025 will result in losses totaling $2.87 billion. In one major exchange theft, where $1.46 billion was stolen, the rapid dispersion of funds played a crucial role in the outcome.
