🚀 Bitcoin Developers Warn Of Vulnerability In Lightning Network Software

According to Odaily, experienced Bitcoin developer 'Calle' has issued a security alert to operators of nodes running older versions of Lightning Network Daemon (LND) 0.18.5 or LITD 0.14.1 software. The vulnerability is linked to how LND processes the description field of lightning invoices, potentially allowing hackers to remotely manipulate payment statuses and steal funds. Satoshi Labs co-founder Pavol Rusnak also highlighted this issue, urging Lightning Network users to promptly update their node software. The newly released versions, LND 0.18.5 and LITD 0.14.1, address this remote threat. It is important to note that LND 0.18.5 was only released last week, leaving many LND nodes outdated and vulnerable. As of the report's release, there are hundreds or possibly thousands of outdated LND nodes. Historically, LND has been the preferred software for most Lightning node operators.

🚀 Bitcoin Core Developers Affirm Commitment to Decentralization and User Freedom

According to Foresight News, the Bitcoin Core development team has issued a statement asserting their stance on transaction relays with ongoing economic demand that will eventually be included by miners. While they do not encourage the use of Bitcoin for non-financial data purposes, they emphasize the importance of maintaining a censorship-resistant and decentralized system, allowing users and miners the freedom to choose transaction content.

The team highlighted that Bitcoin Core software does not automatically update, requiring users to opt for upgrades themselves. This approach underscores the fundamental values of the Bitcoin network: freedom and decentralization. They noted that in practice, users and miners can easily bypass relay restrictions, suggesting that node software should be designed to predict which transactions will be included in blocks rather than attempting to interfere with legitimate transaction activities.

The statement concluded with a commitment to continue optimizing transaction relay strategies to ensure the long-term healthy development of Bitcoin. This involves balancing system security, block construction efficiency, and resistance to attacks.

🚀 Zcash Addresses Critical Node Vulnerability to Prevent Potential Exploitation

Zcash developers have successfully patched a critical vulnerability in the node software that could have allowed malicious miners to drain over 25,000 ZEC from the deprecated Sprout pool. According to NS3.AI, a disclosure report released on Tuesday confirmed that the bug was not exploited, and fixes were implemented by Zcash developers and major mining pools within three days. ZODL noted that Zcash's turnstile mechanism would have prevented broader supply inflation even if the pool had been compromised.
