🚀 India Urges Apple And Google To Integrate Government Apps

According to PANews, India's Ministry of Technology has recently requested that smartphone manufacturers like Apple and Google allow the official app store GOV.in to access the iOS and Android app markets. The government also wishes for these apps to be pre-installed on devices or available for download without triggering 'untrusted source' warnings.

Currently, Google has stated that it is collaborating with the government to maintain the mobile ecosystem but has not directly addressed the request. Both Apple and Google have strict policies controlling their app stores and benefit significantly from a 30% revenue-sharing model. The companies may face pressure from policy enforcement or legal measures.

India has previously taken a firm stance against tech giants, including banning TikTok in 2020 and demanding Meta decrypt WhatsApp messages.

🚀 New Malware Crocodilus Targets Android Wallets

According to Foresight News, researchers from security company ThreatFabric have identified a new malware named Crocodilus that targets Android users by stealing wallet seed phrases. This malware spreads through proprietary drivers and bypasses security protections in Android 13 and later versions, without triggering Play Protect when installed.

Crocodilus employs screen overlays to warn users to back up their wallet seed phrases within 12 hours, threatening potential loss of wallet access if ignored. With this information, attackers can gain full control over the wallet and deplete its contents.

🚀 Kaspersky Uncovers Malicious Software in Fake Android Phones

According to BlockBeats, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab has identified a significant number of counterfeit Android phones pre-installed with malicious software being sold online at low prices. These devices are embedded with the Triada Trojan virus, capable of stealing cryptocurrencies and other sensitive data.

Kaspersky expert Dmitry Kalinin reported that attackers have successfully transferred approximately $270,000 worth of various cryptocurrencies by replacing wallet addresses. The actual losses could be higher, as the attackers also target privacy-focused cryptocurrencies like Monero. There are currently 2,600 confirmed cases of infection, primarily concentrated in Russia. The Trojan can infiltrate the firmware before the device reaches the user, intercepting two-factor authentication messages and stealing account information.

Kaspersky advises users to purchase devices only from legitimate sources and to install security solutions immediately after purchase.

🚀 Unity Addresses Vulnerability Threatening Mobile Crypto Wallets

According to Cointelegraph, Unity Technologies is addressing a vulnerability in its gaming platform that could allow third-party code to run in Android-based mobile games, potentially targeting mobile crypto wallets. Anonymous sources revealed that the issue affects projects dating back to 2017 and primarily impacts Android systems, though Windows, macOS, and Linux are also affected to varying degrees. Unity has started distributing fixes and a standalone patching tool to selected partners, with public guidance expected early next week.

A Google spokesperson confirmed awareness of the vulnerability and stated that Unity is providing a patch for app developers to address the issue. Developers are urged to update their apps immediately, and Google Play is assisting in releasing patched versions swiftly. Current detections indicate that malicious apps exploiting this vulnerability are not present on Google Play. Unity, a leading platform for creating real-time games and experiences, powers over 70% of the top thousand mobile games and more than 50% of new mobile games.

The vulnerability, described as an "in-process code injection," poses a potential threat to crypto wallets. While it is unclear if devices can be fully compromised, the malicious code could attempt overlays, input capture, or screen scraping to target personal credentials or crypto wallet seed phrases. Mobile gamers are advised to update Unity-based games as patches become available and avoid sideloading apps from unofficial sources. Sideloaded apps bypass Google Play's security checks and may not receive automatic security updates or patches.

To protect themselves, users should review device permissions and disable unnecessary overlays or accessibility services during gaming. Additionally, practicing risk segregation by keeping crypto wallets on a separate device or account from gaming activities is recommended. This is an ongoing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

🚀 Android Chip Vulnerability Poses Risk to Web3 Wallets, Researchers Warn

According to Foresight News, researchers at Ledger have identified a vulnerability in Android chips that could lead to devices being fully controlled, posing a risk to smartphone-based Web3 wallets from physical attacks. The Donjon research team at Ledger discovered that hardware fault injection can bypass core security checks and take complete control of the chip. The company emphasized that this finding does not affect Ledger hardware wallets but highlights the risks of relying solely on smartphone hot wallets for digital asset protection.

The Donjon team detailed in their report how they detected the vulnerability in MediaTek's Dimensity 7300 (MT6878) chip, which is widely used in many Android consumer phones. Ledger stated that the research confirms that even the most advanced smartphone chips remain susceptible to physical attacks, making them unsuitable for safeguarding private keys. The vulnerability was disclosed to MediaTek in May. Ledger noted that MediaTek has responded positively and has informed affected manufacturers.
