RT @JPSSProgram: In an early morning image taken by the #SuomiNPP satellite on Oct. 25, Hurricane #Otis swirled over Mexico’s southern coast.

After making landfall as a Category 5, according to @NHC_Atlantic, as of 2 p.m. EDT, Otis is now a tropical storm, bringing 60 mph winds & heavy rain.

WMO #Hurricane Committee retired #Otis from rotating list of names in eastern North Pacific because of destruction in Acapulco, Mexico, in Oct 2023.
It retired #Dora because of indirect links to deadly Hawaii fires.
Otilio and Debora will be used instead.

The @WMO Hurricane Committee has retired #Otis and #Dora from the list of eastern Pacific names, replacing them with #Otilio and #Debora. Note that no names were retired from the Atlantic basin list--the first time since 2014.
