#OnThisDay 8 years ago, @NOAA's GOES-16 satellite transmitted its first high-resolution images back to Earth.

This stunning #FullDisk image was captured via the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), one of the satellite's advanced instruments.

#GOES16 marked the beginning of the revolutionary GOES-R series and is now also known as #GOESEast.
