#OnThisDay in 2016, the #GOESR 🛰️ blasted off from @NASAKennedy and was renamed GOES-16 once in orbit.

As the first of @NOAA’s GOES-R Series of satellites, it ushered in a new era of advanced environmental observations of the Western Hemisphere.
