We’re one week away from #TotalEclipse2024!!

#DYK the SUVI instruments onboard the GOES-R Series compile full-disk solar images around the clock? This allows for constant monitoring of potentially hazardous solar phenomena, like the solar storm on March 22-24 that was monitored by @NOAA’s #GOESEast.

What are the chances that the moon's size and distance from Earth are so precisely aligned with the sun that it can occasionally eclipse its light perfectly?

Check out this amazing coincidence during the total solar #eclipse on April 8!

We’re less than a week away from the big day!

A total solar eclipse will pass over North America on April 8, and will be the last total solar eclipse in the contiguous United States for nearly two decades.

To get ready, let’s take a look back on October 14, 2023, an annular, or ring-shaped, solar eclipse that passed through Albuquerque, New Mexico during the International Balloon Fiesta.

Satellites experience eclipses too!

GOES satellites encounter two periods during the year in which they are in Earth's shadow. Known as the #Eclipse (ECL) season, these periods require the spacecraft to be completely dependent upon batteries for a maximum of 72 minutes daily.

Eclipses occur approximately from late February to mid-April, and from late August to mid-October.
