من الصعب التنبؤ بكيفية تأثير تغيّر المناخ على مخاطر حرائق الغابات في المستقبل. لكن ما يمكن تأكيده في الوقت الحالي هو أن الظواهر الجوية المتطرفة التي تعزّز الحرائق، مثل موجات الحر، زادت بالفعل وبوتيرة أسرع مما كان يتوقعه العلماء في الماضي. في المبدأ، إن استمرار حرق الوقود الأحفوري سيرفع تركيزات الغازات الدفيئة المنبعثة منه أكثر، مما يؤدي إلى اشتداد الاحترار العالمي. ويعني هذا عملياً أن حرائق الغابات وموجات الحر خصوصاً سترتفع بوتائر لم يعهدها البشر من قبل.

ولهذا السبب، علينا أن نكون مهيّئين للتعامل مع حرائق الغابات والأحراج عندما حدوثها والتكيّف مع هذا الخطر المتزايد.
