Last night's #AuroraBorealis via #NOAA21. Magnificent! Eloquent. At #EMSC2023 we learned definitively that the Day Night Band sensor will not fly on GeoXO 🛰️ due to stray light issues. Fortunately we have these magical @JPSSProgram snapshots of the #NorthernLights from space.

RT @NWSGlasgow: Patience is key... Just got a good burst of pillars here at the office. #mtwx #northernlights

Glasgow checking in for tonight's northern lights appearance. Unfortunately, clouds have already building in from the west. In cloud breaks, one still may be able to see auroras peeking through. Skies begin to clear after midnight. Happy star/aurora-gazing! #mtwx #northernlights - NWS Glasgow

The #NOAA20 satellite captured a nice view of the #AuroraBorealis from space last night. With clear skies in central Canada it is likely some @AlbertaAurora chasers and other space weather enthusiasts caught the #NorthernLights from below. More 🛰️views via cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/viirs/im…

Shazam! Here's the #AuroraBorealis from space at 10:22 UTC last night. (Welcoming us back to standard time?) So bright it nearly saturated the sensor in some places. Hope many saw the #NorthernLights. cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/viirs/im…

There was an incredible celestial light display captured from space last night via VIIRS Day Night Band. Meanwhile on Earth clouds blocked the #NorthernLights from below for most in the eastern U.S. and Canada as a massive mid-latitude cyclone moves east toward the I-95 corridor.

More #AuroraBorealis action overnight! These two views of the #NorthernLights were acquired 24 minutes apart by the #NOAA20 and #NOAA21 satellites which fly half an orbit apart and circle Earth 14 times a day (and night) traveling from pole to pole while Earth rotates below.

RT @eljakeo30: The #aurora I've been waiting for! The strong CME hit and a G3 magnetic storm occurred.
In the field quick edit from Spooner, Wisconsin. Colors straight off camera. No color correction! Bit dimmer to the eye, But the reds were so bright right into dawn! #wiwx #northernlights

The strong Geomagnetic Storm arrived after all the nighttime satellite overpasses so we don't have good Aurora imagery from space, but many enjoyed the Northern Lights just before sunrise. This view from northern Wisconsin. Happy #December1st!

A coronal hole near the Sun's equator rotated towards Earth over the past 24-hours, as seen in #GOESEast SUVI imagery. This means high-speed solar wind is flowing our way which could result in geomagnetic storm activity 2 or 3 nights from now. #AuroraBorealis #NorthernLights https://t.co/uX6dU1wO2v

Per @NWSSWPC a Severe (G4) Geomagnetic Storm is likely tonight with #AuroraBorealis at low latitudes. Here are 2 satellite images of the G4 Aurora from March 2023. We hope you see the #NorthernLights but either way we'll share VIIRS Day Night Band views from space this weekend. https://t.co/WuNmDSLlml

RT @esa_earthcare: This time last week, there was a dazzling #aurora display for many.

We actually had to adapt our orbit manouevre plan to account for the solar storm impact.

#SpaceWeather can make things a bit soupy up there for low Earth orbit satellites, as @esaoperations can attest! 🕹️

But that didn't stop another #EarthCARE underflight from taking place over Canada, as the northern lights danced around us!

Stay tuned for more calibration and validation campaign action from our friends and colleagues at @environmentca & @NASAGoddard 📺
