🌽🚫 Biofuels: not as green as they seem

30–40% of US corn goes to ethanol, which requires a land area equivalent to the state of Mississippi. But this only generates 6% of our transportation fuel. Meanwhile, land, water and food systems are strained.

It’s time to rethink this math: https://t.co/ylvkBtPrN4

📉 6% of our fuel 📈 Huge environmental and social costs.

The Midwestern landscape has been reshaped by biofuels—but this has come with tradeoffs.

It's time to ask tough questions and plan for the future👉 https://t.co/Z171g4XjEt

Within-country inequality can reduce acceptance of #ClimatePolicy.

Study @PNASNews co-authored by PIK now explores how #CarbonPricing with redistribution can help the energy transition & reduce economic inequality – which is important for enforceability.

RT @cecfee: The Malmsten Workshop in Sustainability Economics (21–23 Jan 2026, Gothenburg) brought together senior scholars and early-career researchers to discuss frontier research on climate change, biodiversity, and environmental policy.

Hosted by the @uniofgothenburg with @ETH_en and supported by the Richard C. Malmsten Memorial Foundation.

The Keynote Lecture was delivered by Geoffrey Heal (@Columbia_Biz). @cecfee's, E. Somanathan presented “Technology is not a free lunch”, highlighting risks of unregulated technological deployment.

The workshop aligned closely with the research areas of the CPfD Collaborative hosted at CECFEE (EfD India), and featured presentations by CPfD leads and members Thomas Sterner, Jan Steckel, and @anjalirc23.
