Happy astronomical spring, Northern Hemisphere! ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒธ
Today is the #SpringEquinox, one of 2 equinoxes each year (1 in March & Sept).
Today the Sun's position is directly above the equator, so we get equal hours of day/night ๐ŸŒ—

RT @esa: A few hours ago, 03.06 GMT/04.06 CET, we marked the #SpringEquinox in the northern hemisphere. This image was taken at 07.00 GMT/08.00 CET (pic: @eumetsat)

An equinox is when the Sun is directly in line with the equator, which means both the northern and southern hemispheres will experience an equal amount of daylight.

Today is the 'vernal equinox', and for those of us here in the northern hemisphere, it marks the beginning of spring, with daylight hours continuing to lengthen until the summer solstice.

Today at 10:01 CET the Sun was directly above Earthโ€™s equator, marking the #SpringEquinox! ๐ŸŒธ
At this moment our planet is neither tilted towards nor away from the Sun, creating nearly equal day/night. ๐ŸŒ“
