A plume of SO2 has reached Northwest Europe after a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland, on 22 August.
@CopernicusEU #Sentinel-5P observations show that the highest concentration of SO2 was reached between 5-8 km in the atmosphere.
According to @CopernicusEU:
"The measured and forecast SO2 concentrations are below the recommended exposure threshold of 350 ΞΌg/m3 set down in EU air quality standards."
This means that "the plume is not expected to have major impacts on air quality or on health in the affected region."
