➡️ According to OFAC records, the PCC was placed on the United States’ primary financial sanctions list, which is used to freeze assets, restrict transactions, and block individuals or groups from accessing the American financial system. The organization is listed both for its involvement in international drug trafficking and under anti-terrorism sanctions authorities. The Comando Vermelho also appears on the same list under the category used by the U.S. Treasury to designate global terrorists.➡️ In both cases, U.S. government records identify the organizations as a “transnational terrorist group” and a “criminal organization.” Inclusion on the list allows Washington to impose financial restrictions, freeze any assets under U.S. jurisdiction, and increase pressure on individuals, companies, or institutions that maintain ties with the groups.

U.S. military spending on Operation Southern Spear — the lethal naval interdiction campaign targeting vessels in the Caribbean accused of drug trafficking — and Operation Absolute Resolve, which culminated in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, totaled at least $4.7 billion between August 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, according to a Costs of War analysis from Brown University’s Watson Institute.
▪️ Naval deployment: $3.84 billion — the single largest expense, comprising the largest concentration of U.S. ships in the region since the Cuban Missile Crisis
▪️ Aircraft deployment: $616 million
▪️ Operation Absolute Resolve ancillary costs: $206 million, including 150+ aircraft and Special Operations forces
▪️ Vessel strike munitions: $12.6 million to $50.4 million
▪️ Special Operations Forces: $15.9 million
The estimate is partial due to lack of government transparency and does not include long-term costs such as veterans benefits. Costs are continuing to mount as naval assets remain deployed and strikes continue. Amnesty International said at least 196 people have been killed in extrajudicial U.S. raids.

Washington's economic war on Iran and its 'shadow' banking network continues, as on Friday Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the US has seized $1 billion in Iranian cryptocurrency assets as part of the economic component of President Trump's Operation Epic Fury.
The billion dollar figure represents the running total seized to date, building on prior milestones in the conflict, particularly a recent major April 2026 freeze of $344 million in USDT on the Tron blockchain. By close of April, $500 million total had been seized.
And so clearly with the addition since then of some half-billion dollars more in seized digital assets, the US Treasury program has only greatly accelerated in the last several weeks.
During his Friday speech before the Reagan National Economic Forum, Bessent stated:
"Just outright grabbed the wallets. Some of them may be typing in right now and might not realize their wallet had been grabbed."
Assets are held "on behalf of the Iranian people" - he described, while framing that the Iranian government had 'stolen' the money from the Iranian populace.
Bessent is signaling further relentless waves of OFAC wallet designations and aggressive asset forfeitures coming in the next months, as highly sanctioned Iran continues to seek alternative means of conducting financial transactions.

Russia announced on Saturday that it had recalled its ambassador to Armenia for consultations, expressing protest over Yerevan’s growing rapprochement with the European Union ahead of the 7 June election.
"The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia, S.P. Kopyrkin, has been recalled to Moscow for consultations in connection with steps taken by the Armenian leadership toward rapprochement with the European Union," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement about envoy Sergei Kopyrkin.
On Friday, a Russia-led bloc of former Soviet states also indicated it may consider suspending Armenia over its pursuit of EU membership, urging Yerevan to conduct a referendum.
Moscow, meanwhile, says that Western countries are interfering in Armenia to reduce Russian influence across the former Soviet space.
