Forwarded from Demographics Now and Then
The solution to the global demographic crisis will never be ever larger pronatalist cash handouts, tax incentives, or cheaper housing. The solution is giving those aged 22-35 hope for the future. Childbearing in the developed world today is a vote of confidence in tomorrow.
This helps explain why conservatives in the US have more children than liberals & why South Koreans, Taiwanese,& Thais have so few offspring. If young people don’t see themselves doing well (or at least doing better than their parents) their incentive to have kids diminishes.

🇵🇸 🇪🇺 🇮🇱 Muslim countries, EU join condemnations of Israeli moves deepening West Bank control
The security cabinet decision, announced on Sunday by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, “dramatically” changes land registration and property acquisition procedures in the West Bank, easing Jewish settlement in the territory. It aims to deepen Israeli control over the territory, including at sensitive sites such as Hebron’s Cave of the Patriarchs. Smotrich said the goal of the new measures was, in part, to “kill the idea of a Palestinian state.”
“The European Union condemns recent decisions by Israel’s security cabinet to expand Israeli control in the West Bank. This move is another step in the wrong direction,” EU spokesman Anouar El Anouni told journalists.
The EU has weighed suspending Israel’s inclusion in agreements with the bloc covering research and free trade in response to Jerusalem’s treatment of the Palestinians, though it has not done so yet. The bloc includes allies of Israel like Germany and Hungary, as well as a number of outspoken critics such as Ireland and Spain. Despite Israeli objections, several EU countries recognized a Palestinian state during the Gaza war sparked by the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attack.
The UK joined the chorus of condemnations, with a government statement asserting that “any unilateral attempt to alter the geographic or demographic make-up of Palestine is wholly unacceptable and would be inconsistent with international law. We call on Israel to reverse these decisions immediately.”
Middle Eastern countries, meanwhile, have said moves to annex the West Bank would mark an end to Israel’s normalization in the region. The statement was signed by countries with which Israel has relations, such as Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, as well as adversaries including Turkey and Qatar. Other signatories included Pakistan, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
On Sunday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s office called the decision dangerous, saying it considers the moves part of a war by the Israeli government against Palestinians, in a report published by the PA’s WAFA news outlet.

Russia is restricting access to Telegram in an attempt to force its citizens to switch to a state-controlled app built for surveillance and political censorship.
8 years ago, Iran tried the same strategy — and failed. It banned Telegram on made-up pretexts, trying to force people onto a state-run alternative.
Despite the ban, most Iranians still use Telegram (bypassing censorship) and prefer it to surveilled apps.
Restricting citizens’ freedom is never the right answer. Telegram stands for freedom of speech and privacy, no matter the pressure.

President Trump told Axios in an interview on Tuesday that he's considering sending a second aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East to prepare for military action if negotiations with Iran fail.
The U.S. and Iran resumed negotiations last Friday in Oman for the first time since the 12-day war in June, but Trump has simultaneously launched a massive military buildup in the Gulf. "Either we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time," Trump told Axios.
"We have an armada that is heading there and another one might be going," Trump said, adding that he's "thinking" about sending another aircraft carrier strike group.
Tehran has publicly insisted it won't negotiate on any issues other than its nuclear program, and even then won't give up on its right to enrich uranium.
Trump said it was a "no-brainer" for any deal to cover Iran's nuclear program, but that he also thought it would be possible to address Iran's ballistic missile stockpiles.

After sending a Type 055 destroyer and a Type 052 to the Sea of Oman region to escort the Ocean No. 1 intelligence ship, the Chinese are stepping up intelligence support to Iran.
The Ocean No. 1 is likely monitoring all movements of U.S. Navy ships and submarines and passing the information to Iran. But in an increasingly bold move, the Chinese are photographing U.S. bases and making the photos public, and this time they photographed a newly installed THAAD battery at the Muwaffaq Salti Airbase in Jordan and posted the images with location data online.
With two modern destroyers and the Ocean No. 1 in the region providing data to Iran, there is no chance of a surprise attack, making a zero-casualty strike even more difficult for US-Israel.
The Chinese are giving Iran something similar to what they gave Pakistan in the last conflict with India, even though they deny it.
he Chinese support obviously goes beyond radars, which they know were easy targets last June. Those flights from China to Iran in the last two months, sometimes multiple times a day, didn’t have the capacity to carry anti-aircraft batteries, but they certainly had the capacity to carry a lot of integration equipment, including for ground BeiDou stations.
It seems to me that after Iran migrated almost its entire arsenal to BeiDou and acquired more Chinese radas, they are either already operating or planning to operate something similar to Pakistan’s Link 17.
If this happens, it would mean the Chinese are directly involved in target acquisition for the Iranians, completely preventing the kind of blackout that occurred last June.
Iran’s C4ISR capabilities have received major investment in the last seven months, and China’s release of photos of U.S. bases clearly shows they intend to supply Iran with as much intelligence as possible.

It is equipped with advanced seabed imaging and mapping systems, as well as extensive capabilities for collecting environmental data over wide ranges.
Here, I’ll put forward my own hypothesis: the ship is also capable of functioning in a way very similar to the American RC-135 aircraft.
With the sensors the Chinese have at their disposal, it can capture electronic emissions (RF, radar, communications) from nearby ships and aircraft, including COMINT (communications intelligence) and ELINT (electronic intelligence on non-communication signals).
This vessel is much more than a research platform, and the proof is that it has been sent to an area of imminent conflict, closely monitoring U.S. naval forces in the Arabian Sea.
Both the positions of the American fleet, including submarines, and their communications could be intercepted and relayed to Iran.

This war isn't just about Israel defeating a geopolitical rival in the Middle East, its also a way for Washington D.C. to gain leverage over the PRC and dissuade it from changing the status-quo in East Asia as America lost the sealift capabilities that would allow it to conduct large scale warfare in the region.

This marks the 4th consecutive annual decline.
Salaries have plummeted -24% in real terms since the ~$71,000 peak seen in 2021.
This comes as graduates are being pushed into lower-paying roles that often have little to do with their degree.
The % of recent graduates whose first job aligns with their field of study has fallen from 26% for the 2022 cohort to 20% for the 2025 cohort.
Young Americans are unable to find jobs.

The RC-135V Rivet Joint is a signals intelligence plane, and comparisons to previous satellite data shows it being at a completely identical spot since its deployment to the base last month, meaning it has not yet conducted a flight to gather SIGINT-based intelligence on Iran to assist in giving the USAF a target bank for future strikes.

📖 🇫🇷 🐣 Anup Malani on X:
If France had grown like England after 1760, it would have 250 million people today — not 68 million. Instead, French women went from 4.5 children to 3.5 in just 40 years, a century before any other country.
It wasn't industrialization. It was secularization.
Using crowdsourced genealogies, Guillaume Blanc maps the timing across French regions: where the Church lost its grip earliest, fertility dropped first. Neither literacy nor urbanization had a significant effect.
R&R at Economic Journal.

Cultural values drove fertility decline in 1760s France, and cultural values are driving it now. The mechanism rhymes across centuries.

I am concerned about reports of a UAE-linked training hub for genocidal RSF thugs in Ethiopia with possible supply routes via Somaliland.
These moves would be escalatory and further reason to designate the RSF as an FTO, bringing consequences for this regional proxy support.

🚨 THE JOEL DAVIS SITUATION IS INSANE! 🚨
So tomorrow Joel will appear before the courts again to see if he's finally granted bail after being locked up in solitary confinement for almost 3 whole months FOR MAKING AN EDGY TELEGRAM POST!
Because of this, he missed the birth of his firstborn and has since been kept in solitary confinement in a mould-ridden cell. They have denied showers, a Bible, and he has no communication with the outside world or his lawyer, as he's been deemed a "National Security Threat".
With that said, I thought now would be a good opportunity to do a little recap of everything that's happened so far in hopes that it's the last time I ever have to raise awareness about the subject.
Joel Davis is a political prisoner, and he's being targeted simply for calling out the anti-white bias that is festering within our institutions and judicial system.
So for what is hopefully the last time...

The Vatican Bank has launched two equity indexes that choose stocks on the basis of Catholic principles.
The Morningstar IOR Eurozone Catholic Principles Index and the Morningstar IOR US Catholic Principles Index “are designed to serve as a reference for Catholic investments worldwide,” the Institute for the Works of Religion, as the bank is formally known, said in a statement seen by Bloomberg. Both comprise 50 medium- and large-cap companies, including Big Tech and financial stocks.
The launch of the IOR’s first indexes comes at a tough time for investment products that take environmental, social and governance factors into account. Funds with ESG investment goals saw $84 billion in outflows last year, the first time the global market for such products was hit by net redemptions, according to a report by Morningstar Inc. last week.
The IOR’s benchmarks face established competition for Catholic investors. A Global X exchange-traded fund with more than $1 billion of assets tracks the S&P 500 Catholic Values Index, which was launched in 2015 and excludes stocks that aren’t aligned with guidelines from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. The top constituents include Nvidia Corp. and Apple Inc. The ETF rose 16% last year, roughly inline with the S&P 500.
According to fact sheets from Morningstar, the top constituents in their new US index are Meta Platforms Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., while the top weightings in the Eurozone gauge are ASML Holding NV and Deutsche Telekom AG.
The IOR, which provides traditional banking services and oversees investments for institutions tied to the church, has been striving for years to rid itself of a reputation for mismanagement stemming from a series of financial scandals. Pope Leo XIV has taken steps to limit the role of the IOR, including approving rules last October that would distribute responsibility for investing the Vatican’s funds among various institutions.

🇺🇸 Trump signs executive order reclassifying marijuana from a schedule 1 to a schedule 3 drug, relaxing regulations. 📎 disclosetv
🇺🇸🚭 - Surveys suggest that about 18 million people in the United States have used marijuana almost daily (or about five times a week) in recent years. That was up from around six million in 2012 and less than one million in 1992. More Americans now use marijuana daily than alcohol.
