🇭🇺⛽️🇷🇴 Hungarian foreign minister, Peter Szijjarto met last week with Romanian energy minister, Sebastian Burduja, to discuss a deal for future natural gas import from the Neptun Deep gas field in the Black Sea.

In 2019 Hungary negotiated with Romania a contract for the import of 4.4 billion m3 of gas but the deal fell apart after Bucharest modified the offshore laws.

Now Hungary plans to import 2.2 billion m3 of natural gas beginning in 2027.

🇷🇴⛽️⚡️ Transgaz director, Ion Sterian, explained that the Neptun Deep gas field won't be enough to cover Romania's internal consumption.

He dispels the myth that, once the Neptun Deep gas field will become active, Romania will become a major natural gas exporter for Europe.

The gas in the Black Sea will not be enough for Romania! We will continue to import natural gas from elsewhere — Transgaz director, Ion Sterian.

The Neptun Deep gas field is believe to hold around 100 billion m3 of natural gas which would be enough to cover Romania's consumption for the next 10 years. The export of natural gas is therefore, "a theory" at the moment according to Sterian.

🇷🇴🏆🇪🇺 Until recently, some EU member states produced as much natural gas as they consumed or even more. Now only Romania does, the EU's largest gas producer in absolute terms (overtook the Netherlands this year). The EU went from producing over 30% of its gas demand in 2010 to 10% now.
