🇺🇸 A video of ATF agent James Burk from three years ago has reemerged because of the ensuing lawsuit against Columbus PD after they arrested him. It demonstrates how difficult it can be to confiscate weapons. That’s something the Senate may want to consider when they vote on an assault rifle ban.

🔵 An ATF agent harasses a family about the father's "illegal shotgun".

🔵 Mother calls 911 after the ATF agent in plainclothes attempts to barge through their door.

🔵 Police arrive on scene and arrest the ATF agent after he disobeys commands, agent is tasered while resisting arrest.

🇨🇳 🚀 China sends mysterious reusable 'test spacecraft' to space

🔴 China has launched a classified reusable vehicle on a mystery mission to Earth's orbit for the second time in two years.

🔴 The spacecraft may be similar in size and function to the US Air Force's X-37B spaceplane.

🔴 The busy day in spaceflight included the launch of the Jiuquan spacecraft and Six rocket launches.

China has launched a classified reusable vehicle on a mystery mission to Earth's orbit for the second time in two years. The "test spacecraft" Chinese Long March 2F rocket lifted off from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert, Northern China, on Thursday. "The test spacecraft will be in orbit for a period of time before returning to the scheduled landing site in China," according to the Chinese state-run Xinhua news agency.

🇺🇸 This Tiny Modular Nuclear Reactor Just Got the Green Light From U.S. Regulators

Eleven countries are already interested in setting up NuScale power plants.

🔵 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has awarded approval to nuclear leader NuScale for its small, modular reactor design.

🔵 These reactors will be built offsite and installed onsite at nontraditionally small nuclear plants.

🔵 The energy industry faces huge challenges before it can decarbonize.

In a major step forward for the burgeoning modular nuclear reactor movement, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved all but the final formalities on a tiny reactor design put forth by industry leader NuScale. The July 29 announcement comes after six years of steady work toward regulatory approval.

The combination of small and modular is new for nuclear energy. Decades ago, the first nuclear plants were small because that was simply the limit of the emerging technology at the time. Modular design concepts were in the mix back then because, honestly, what wasn’t in the mix? There were even nuclear-powered concepts for family sedans as far back as the 1950s.

🇹🇼 Head of Taiwan's missile programme is found dead in hotel | Reuters

Ou Yang Li-hsing, deputy director of Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, has been found dead in a hotel room in the south of the island.

The military man, who was in charge of the island territory's missile developments programme, reportedly died of a heart attack, according to the Central Taiwan News Agency.

No evidence of trespassing or violence was found in the serviceman's room. Family members of the deceased claimed he had heart problems.

At the time, Ou Yang was on a work trip in Pingtung County. He had taken up his post this year to oversee missile production projects, which have been gaining higher priority in Taiwan.

🇨🇳🇹🇼 Associated Press: Blockade of Taiwan, which was previously predicted against the backdrop of large-scale exercises of the PLA, is already underway

Taiwan cancels flights as China conducts military exercises, AP writes. The publication notes that the blockade "increased the risk of failures in the flow of Taiwanese-made processor chips needed by the industry's global telecommunications and automotive companies."

Hong Kong newspaper The South China Morning Post called the exercise "an effective blockade of Taiwan." Against this background, China is extending military exercises around Taiwan from 7 to 15 August.
🇹🇼 🇨🇳 Taiwan accuses Beijing of simulating invasion as US-China relations nosedive

Taiwan accused the Chinese army of simulating an attack on its main island Saturday, as Beijing continued its retaliation for US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Taipei visit.

Beijing maintained some of its largest-ever military drills around Taiwan on Saturday -- exercises aimed at practising a blockade and ultimate invasion of the island, analysts say.

"They were judged to be conducting a simulation of an attack on Taiwan's main island," the island's defence ministry said.

Beijing said it would also hold a live-fire drill in a southern part of the Yellow Sea -- located between China and the Korean peninsula -- from Saturday until August 15.

John Culver, a former CIA Asia analyst, said in a discussion hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies that Beijing's main purpose with its military exercises was to establish a "new normal".

🇨🇳 🚀 Chinese state media reports say that the reusable spaceplane was launched sometime on the night of August 4-5, 2022, via a Long March 2F rocket fired from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert, and successfully entered orbit. The U.S. Space Force and independent observers subsequently confirmed the launch .

“The test spacecraft will be in orbit for a period of time before returning to the scheduled landing site in China, during which reusable and in-orbit service technology verification will be carried out as planned to provide technical support for the peaceful use of space,” Chinese authorities said regarding this new spaceplane test, according to a machine translation of a report today from state-run outlet Xinhua .
