Bundeswehr Greenland Mission: The 44h trip cost taxpayers at least 1/2M euro for flight alone!

Nothing gained except expenses: The hastily aborted jaunt to Greenland is turning out to be very expensive for German taxpayers!

Breakdown:
flight time is 7h. The min cost per flight hr for the transport aircraft A400M is >50k. However, figures show more than 200k – depending on maintenance requirements & condition. In that case, the costs would amount to > 1M euro!

The operation, officially described as an “exploratory mission,” ended more quickly than expected: After not even 44hr, Bundeswehr began “withdrawal” The 15 returned 1st class civilian Icelandair via Reykjavik, because the transport plane still needs maintenance

The surprisingly rapid departure – for reasons that are not known – came completely unexpectedly for the reconnaissance team. The recall order came directly from Berlin after it previously stated that the duration was “open”
