🇮🇱🇱🇧🖇 On the Role of Social Media in Recruiting Lebanese Citizens for the Benefit of Israel

Starting from the events of October 7, 2023 and the subsequent escalation on the Lebanese-Israeli border, Israel is actively recruiting Lebanese citizens, using them as informants in the war against Hezbollah and its local allies.

The usual methods are being used: in the Lebanese segment of the Internet, hastily created unknown-origin websites are appearing, positioning themselves as non-governmental organizations intended to help the citizens of the Arab republic and "protect the culture and traditions of Lebanon".

🔻A colleague from the Mediterranean Man channel highlighted the activities of one such organization using the example of Facebook, where a page called "Lebanon First" was created just a few days ago. The patriotically named NGO set itself the goal of "fighting for human rights" as well as a peaceful change of power.

Upon further examination, it turns out that the organization, which positions itself as Lebanese, is in fact far from being so:

▪️The quality of the Arabic language immediately catches the eye: the website of the organization sounds quite unnatural. It gives the impression that the texts are composed using an online translator with outgoing errors. Instead of the Lebanese dialect of Arabic, we are presented with the classical dialect (al-fusha).

▪️The announcements indicate the recruitment of Lebanese citizens into the NGO for the purpose of conducting "positive work": they are offered to leave their full name, address and all personal information. The Israeli Mossad acted in a similar way when recruiting Lebanese citizens through similar websites and organizations.

▪️The IP addresses lead not to Lebanon, but to the USA, and in general, when checking the security, they are described as malicious. For Israel, the advantage is that the Lebanese government in this case will not be able to sue the organization registered in the USA, all its data will be confidential.

🔻It seems that the Israelis are clearly saving on such structures. The possible reason for this is the low return: to create a beautiful picture of the imaginary interest of the Lebanese, the account administration of the organization on Facebook even resorted to the use of bots.

It is enough to compare the number of subscribers (at least 300 users) and the average reach of some posts. On some posts, the number of likes reaches several thousand, on the rest - barely hundreds. This already says a lot.
