⭕️ Iraqi officials warn ancient monuments at risk from climate change

Iraqi authorities are raising concerns over the preservation of the country’s ancient monuments, warning that thousands of years of history are at risk as southern cities face erosion due to climate change.

Severe, dry conditions are increasing soil salinity and damaging historical sites in the ruins of cities like Ur, the birthplace of the Biblical patriarch Abraham, and Babylon, the former grand capital of empires.

Sand dunes are accelerating the decay of the northern side of the Ziggurat of Ur, a massive stepped pyramid temple built more than 4,000 years ago to honor the moon god, Nanna.

"The combination of wind and sand dunes leads to the erosion of the northern sections of the structure," said Abdullah Nasrallah, an archaeologist with the antiquities department in Dhi Qar province, where Ur is located.

❗️Palestinian boy with autism reportedly suffering abuse in Israeli detention

Israeli authorities are reportedly holding a 14-year-old Palestinian boy with autism and severe disabilities in detention, where he faces violence from guards. The boy was abducted two weeks ago by Israel’s Shin Bet and police on alleged 'security violations' during a family visit to the occupied West Bank. His name and arrest details have been kept secret.

His mother and lawyer, who saw him in detention, reported that he is subjected to “violence and harsh treatment.”

His mother described soldiers storming their home before dawn, pointing rifles and flashlights at the children, and confiscating family electronics. Lawyers visiting the boy reported he is handcuffed, beaten, and bullied, despite his disabilities and small stature. The court recently extended his detention for another week, rejecting his lawyer’s appeal.

Palestinian legal groups warn that detainees, including juveniles, are subjected to systematic torture, beatings, starvation, and medical neglect in Israeli facilities. The Palestinian Prisoners Society reports that 80 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody since October 2023.

⭕️ Afghanistan, Pakistan resume peace talks in Istanbul after earlier collapse

Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to restart peace talks in Istanbul, diplomatic sources confirmed on Thursday, just a day after Islamabad declared the previous round of negotiations a failure.

The renewed dialogue, held at Turkiye’s request and mediated jointly by Ankara and Doha, brings both delegations back to the table to address recent border clashes that left dozens dead earlier this month.

The dispute centers on cross-border attacks and border security, with Pakistan accusing militants based in Afghanistan of launching assaults, while Kabul rejects the allegations and condemns Islamabad’s violations of Afghan sovereignty.

The latest Istanbul round follows an October 19 ceasefire agreement signed in Doha that quickly unraveled amid growing mistrust.

Officials say discussions will focus on establishing joint border monitoring and security mechanisms, though expectations for a breakthrough remain modest.

Neither the Afghan Taliban government nor Pakistani officials have issued formal statements, suggesting that the talks remain in a delicate exploratory phase.

❗️Statement by Hezbollah:

"The criminal Zionist enemy continues its series of crimes on Lebanese soil, deepening its incursions and violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the sanctity of its citizens, with complete disregard for agreements, understandings, and international law.

At dawn today, the enemy penetrated deep into the border town of Blida, stormed the municipal building, and executed in cold blood the municipal employee, martyr Ibrahim Salameh, while he slept in his bed — a crime that confirms the brutality and bloodlust of this enemy, which kills without any justification.

Hezbollah strongly condemns this new Israeli crime, which came immediately after the visit of the American envoy to Lebanon and her chairing of the “mechanism committee” meetings. The party affirms that the Zionist aggression against our country takes place in partnership and collusion with the United States, which grants Israel the green light for every escalation and attack, aiming to pressure Lebanon into implementing malicious agendas and projects that contradict its national interests and undermine its sovereignty and sources of strength.

The enemy’s persistence in its crimes and violations requires the Lebanese state and all political forces to take a unified, responsible, and firm national stance to strengthen Lebanon’s position in the face of these ongoing aggressions.

Hezbollah commends the stance of the President of the Republic for requesting the Lebanese Army to confront Israeli incursions and calls for the army to be supported with all necessary means to enhance its defensive capabilities and to be provided with political cover to face this savage enemy.

The party also calls on the government to take a different course than it has over the past eleven months and to assume its responsibilities by adopting a political and diplomatic plan to stop the attacks, protect Lebanese citizens and their interests, and urge the international community, the UN Security Council, and UNIFIL forces to shoulder their responsibilities by taking firm and effective positions to end the aggression.

Hezbollah extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the martyr, to the Blida municipality, and to its honorable residents, asking God Almighty to grant the martyr mercy and the highest ranks, and to bless our people in Blida, the south, and all of Lebanon with patience and near relief, God willing."

❗️Majority of Palestinians oppose Hamas disarmament, skeptical of Trump 'peace' plan

A large majority of Palestinians oppose the disarmament of Hamas and remain highly skeptical that US President Donald Trump’s 'peace' plan will bring a lasting end to Israel’s genocide against Gaza.

According to a poll by the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) conducted from 22–25 October and released on Tuesday, about 70% of Palestinians across the occupied West Bank and Gaza strongly reject the idea of Hamas giving up its weapons, even if it risks renewed Israeli attacks.

Opposition is highest in the West Bank, where roughly 80% of respondents want Hamas’s armed wing to retain its arsenal.

In Gaza, a narrower majority of 55% opposed Hamas’s disarmament.

The poll also revealed that 62% of Palestinians do not believe Trump's plan will successfully end the war “once and for all.” Skepticism is greater in the occupied West Bank, where 67% of respondents expressed doubt, compared with 54% in Gaza.

⭕️ Leaked documents expose Google, Amazon ‘winking mechanism’ to secretly alert Israel over foreign data requests

Leaked Israeli government documents obtained by The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call reveal that Google and Amazon secretly agreed to use a coded “winking mechanism” to alert Tel Aviv whenever they were compelled to share Israeli data with foreign authorities under a $1.2bn cloud-computing deal known as Project Nimbus.

The mechanism required the companies to send small “special compensation” payments—matching the foreign country’s dialing code—within 24 hours of any disclosure, sidestepping legal gag orders. Legal experts called it a “clever but risky” attempt to skirt international law, warning it could breach US confidentiality rules.

Under the 2021 deal, both firms also accepted extraordinary terms barring them from restricting Israel’s use of their cloud services, even if tied to human rights abuses. The arrangement guarantees Tel Aviv uninterrupted access to military, intelligence, and surveillance systems hosted on their platforms.

The revelations follow Microsoft’s move last month to cut Israeli military access to its cloud after discovering it stored intercepted Palestinian calls.

The Nimbus contract forbids Google and Amazon from taking similar action, binding them to maintain full service or face penalties.

Both companies denied evading legal orders, while Israel’s finance ministry said the agreement protects “vital national interests.”

❗️ICE accused of using 'hidden' detention rooms to hold migrants for days or weeks

A recent investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has uncovered that the agency is detaining people for prolonged periods in secretive rooms in locations that included ICE offices and federal buildings that were originally designed for short‑term use but are now used for days or even weeks.

Previously, ICE policy restricted these holding rooms to a maximum of 12 hours, but a June 2025 memo extended the limit to 72 hours, and data shows some detainees were held for much longer, one of which included a case of over two months.

Oversight of these sites is minimal: they often fall outside standard inspection regimes, attorneys and families report limited access, and detainees describe harsh conditions such as constant lighting, lack of hygiene supplies, minimal legal contact and no medical personnel.

The findings raise serious concerns about due‑process rights and the use of under‑regulated spaces to manage surging arrests, especially under recent immigration enforcement expansions in the US.

❗️UK allows Palestinian students from Gaza to bring families on scholarships

Palestinian students awarded scholarships at UK universities will now be allowed to bring their families from Gaza, after the government agreed to consider exemptions on a case-by-case basis.

Following lobbying from MPs and supporters, the UK government revised the rules, allowing partners and children to accompany scholarship students.

A government spokesperson said: “Students coming from Gaza to the UK have suffered an appalling ordeal after two years of conflict. They have endured unimaginable hardship but can now begin to rebuild their lives through studying in our world class universities."

“That is why we are supporting the evacuation of dependents of students on scholarships who are eligible to study here under the immigration rules on a case-by-case basis.”

⭕️ UAE officers reportedly sent from Yemen to Gaza to train mercenaries against resistance

Security sources told Yemen’s Saba agency that several Emirati officers stationed in Shabwa and Riyan have been dispatched to Gaza to oversee mercenary recruitment and operations on behalf of Israel.

The officers—some linked to the Emirates Red Crescent—were reportedly tasked with training brigades in drone warfare and other combat methods for 45 days, mirroring their roles in Yemen and Sudan.

The sources also noted the presence of US officers in occupied areas assessing mercenary readiness, suggesting plans for renewed aggression against Yemen.

❗️Greece ramps up security amid protests against Israeli tourists

Greek authorities have increased security at the harbors of Patras and Katakolo after anti-Israel demonstrations disrupted the docking of the cruise liner MS Crown Iris earlier this week in Kalamata. Protesters, angered by ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza despite the recent ceasefire, chanted against the passengers, forcing some to watch the rallies from the ship’s upper deck or police-escorted buses.

The protests reflect growing public outrage in Greece over the Gaza genocide, with activists warning that Israelis supporting their government’s actions are “not welcome” in the country. Experts note that Greece’s geographic proximity to the region and historic ties with the Arab world have made the population particularly sensitive to the genocide in Gaza, even as the government maintains strategic and economic relations with Israel.

The demonstrations have sparked controversy, with some critics calling them antisemitic, while anti-war and anti-racist groups continue to demand an end to Greek collaboration with Israel. Protests have targeted not only tourists but also military cooperation, including calls to close the Souda Bay naval base, a key NATO facility supporting operations in the region.
