❗️Syria releases preliminary results from indirect parliamentary vote
On Sunday, about 6,000 members of regional electoral colleges voted for candidates from pre-approved lists, helping fill nearly two-thirds of the 210 Syria's parliamentary seats. Self-appointed President Ahmad al-Sharaa is set to select the remaining one-third.
According to preliminary results issued Monday, Syria’s electoral committee said 119 lawmakers had been chosen but did not disclose vote totals. Unsuccessful candidates were given until 17:00 local time (14:00 GMT) to file appeals.
Six of the newly elected lawmakers are women, according to a Reuters tally confirmed by election observers. Four of these women come from religious minorities, including a Christian, an Ismaili Muslim, and two Alawites.
Another six parliamentarians belong to ethnic minorities: three Turkmen and three Kurds, one of whom is a woman, the observers said.

❗️Bologna bans pro-Palestinian protest over unrest concerns
Authorities in Bologna, northern Italy, have prohibited a pro-Palestinian protest set for Tuesday, 7 October 2025, citing concerns over potential unrest after recent days of protests and clashes with police across Italy, a local representative of the Interior Minister reported.
The Giovani Palestinesi (Palestinian Youth) Italia group had organized protests in Bologna and Turin to mark the second anniversary of 7 October 2023.
"The demonstration will be absolutely prohibited," said Enrico Ricci, Bologna’s local prefect, expressing fears of clashes following weekend violence in Rome. Giovani Palestinesi stated on Instagram that they intended to proceed with the protest despite the ban.
Israel's ambassador to Italy, Jonathan Peled, objected to what he described as initiatives "that seek to glorify the October 7 massacre and successfully worked with Italian authorities to cancel the event," according to Israel’s Foreign Ministry on X.

⭕️ Limak Holding secures $2B loan for Antalya-Alanya highway project
Turkish company Limak Holding’s public-private partnership project to construct a highway connecting the tourism hubs of Antalya and Alanya has obtained a €1.7 billion ($2 billion) loan from 14 institutions.
A source told Reuters that "87% of the sustainability-linked credit, with a 14-year maturity, was provided by foreign-capital financial institutions." The financing agreement was set to be signed at a ceremony in Ankara today.
The source, speaking anonymously ahead of the ceremony, said the project is expected to be completed within three years and noted that demand for financing was 2.1 times greater than required. The new highway will reduce travel time between the two popular tourist destinations on Turkiye’s southern coast from 2½ hours to 36 minutes.

❗️US Democrat-led civil rights commission launches broad probe into federal response to campus 'anti-Semitism' claims against Trump administration
A US Democrat-led civil rights oversight body has launched a broad investigation into the federal government’s handling of 'anti-Semitism' claims on college campuses.
According to documents seen by Reuters, the commission’s expansive requests for records and communications between federal officials and universities have further aggravated administration officials and their allies. Beyond requesting extensive documentation from the schools, the commission plans to hold public hearings in November with witnesses selected by its Democratic leadership, culminating in a report expected in about a year.
The commission, comprising four Democrats, three Republicans, and one Independent, unanimously voted to launch the investigation in January, just days before US President Donald Trump assumed office.

❗️Oil prices rise as OPEC+ plans modest November production increase
Oil prices rose by about $1 today after OPEC+ announced a modest production increase for November.
Brent crude futures rose $1.07, or 1.66%, to $65.60 a barrel by 12:52 EDT (16:52 GMT), while US West Texas Intermediate crude increased 96 cents, or 1.58%, to $61.84.
"The market feel that the actual amount of oil that is going to hit the market is far less than what they announced, given that some of the OPEC+ members are already producing at capacity," said Andrew Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates.

❗️White House: Trump administration 'doing everything possible' to accelerate Sharm el-Sheikh Gaza talks
At a Washington briefing, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt addressed reporters’ questions regarding the progress of the Sharm el-Sheikh talks, stressing that the Trump administration is “doing everything possible to move the process forward as quickly as possible.” She underscored, “It’s important that we move quickly. That’s the position of the entire presidential team.”
She said that the captive and prisoner exchange would speed up, paving the way to “the next stage—ensuring lasting peace in Gaza and preventing the enclave from threatening Israel and the United States.”
Leavitt also noted that President Donald Trump is closely following the talks and is informed about the negotiation details. “Technical groups are currently coordinating lists of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners to be released. The work is ongoing, and the president is receiving updates directly,” she said.
