❗️Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich laid out his “red lines” ahead of the Trump-Netanyahu meeting.

In a message posted on X, Smotrich wished Netanyahu “great success,” while outlining the framework of a possible deal he could support:

– The complete removal of Hamas from Gaza and the dismantling of all infrastructure above and below ground that sustains its survival.

– The Israeli army’s continued presence in the Philadelphi Corridor: maintaining occupation of the strip along the Egyptian border — Gaza’s only land border not connected to Israel — while preserving freedom of military operations inside Gaza.

– No permission for the Palestinian Authority to govern Gaza.

– Absolutely no mention of a Palestinian state.

– Opposition to Qatar’s role in Gaza.

– Allowing those who wish to leave the Gaza Strip to do so.

⭕️ Macron backs Saudi-hosted conference to equip Lebanese Army for Hezbollah disarmament
——

French President Emmanuel Macron announced support for a Saudi-hosted conference aimed at bolstering the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) as it takes on the controversial mission of disarming Hezbollah. Macron told the UN General Assembly that Lebanon would “breathe easier” once Hezbollah’s weapons were handed over to the LAF.

A French source confirmed to Breaking Defense that the meeting, expected before the end of 2025, will include Gulf, Arab, European, Commonwealth countries, and the US. France signaled readiness to provide advanced capabilities, including radars for air defense systems, while the conference may also extend aid to Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces.

The initiative comes as UNIFIL’s mandate nears expiry after nearly five decades, and amid past Saudi-Lebanese tensions that led Riyadh to cancel a $3 billion aid package in 2016. It follows France’s 2024 donor conference that raised $200 million for the LAF, and a new $14.2 million US package announced this month to supply explosives and equipment to dismantle Hezbollah’s weapons infrastructure. Hezbollah has repeatedly rejected the disarmament plan outright.

⭕️ Clashes between SDF and Turkish-backed factions escalate in eastern Aleppo

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported escalating clashes in eastern Aleppo as artillery fire and reinforcements raise fears of a wider confrontation. More than ten artillery shells struck areas around the Tishreen Dam following exchanges between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed Syrian factions.

Earlier in the day, SOHR sources confirmed that orders were issued to deploy “show-of-force” units with heavy vehicles, tanks, and artillery to the Deir Hafer frontline in anticipation of possible SDF operations. The buildup comes amid reports that the SDF has stationed kamikaze drones, rocket launchers, and long-range artillery near the local sugar factory.

Military reinforcements from Turkey also arrived at Kuweires Airport, while the Aleppo–Raqqa road in Deir Hafer remained closed for a third consecutive day. Additional forces from both the SDF and Turkish-backed units have gathered around the Tishreen Dam, heightening local fears of rapid escalation.

SOHR added that yesterday an SDF drone strike destroyed two positions of Turkish-backed National Army factions in Qashla village.

❗️UK Labour Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said, “We understand your cause, and we are now recognizing a Palestinian state,” in response to a person holding a Palestinian flag and demanding action to stop the genocide in Gaza.

A little over a year ago, Reeves responded to a young man’s call for the UK to halt arms sales to Israel, made as he was being forcibly removed from the audience, by saying: “We are a party for the people, not a party of protest.”

She reiterated today that the Labour Party is “not a party of protest," and that protests do not bring change but rather power does.

❗️Reuters: UAE pressures Netanyahu to back Trump Gaza plan, drop West Bank annexation

The UAE is urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to back US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan during their meeting today and to drop any intention of annexing the occupied West Bank, a delegate familiar with the discussions told Reuters.

The UAE cautioned Netanyahu that annexation would block further normalization with key Arab and Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, the delegate said.

According to a senior Israeli official, Netanyahu will deliver Israel’s response to Trump’s Gaza proposal when he meets the US president at the White House today.
