❗Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti was denied a petition to alleviate the inhumane and unequal conditions of his life imprisonment:

○ Israeli courts claimed that Barghouti’s demands ignore the “new conditions” imposed on security prisoners following 7 October, that reduce routine activities for the prisoners, limiting their movements and interactions to the minimum required by law.

○ The courts argued that removing Barghouti from his “unsegregated wing” and putting him in a regular wing would “assist Hamas” and create security concerns inside the prison.

○ In one account listed in the formal complaint, Barghouti describes how he was attacked by Israeli soldiers who broke into his cell and beat him until he lost consciousness, before dragging him into an inner courtyard of the prison, where he lay for hours without medical care or water.

The occupation's expansionist nature shows us that it would not accept to shrink. How would it accept to withdraw from the occupied West Bank, let alone the occupied Syrian Golan Heights?

In its 2017 charter, Hamas' acceptance of a state along the '1967' borders comes with a demand for a "return of the refugees and the displaced to their homes from which they were expelled."

Their return would spell Israel's downfall – as the 'Jewish state' would cease to be majority-Jewish.

That's aside from the fact that armed settlers would spark a civil war in the West Bank upon the request to leave.

When Hamas says it accepts a sovereign Palestinian state along the '67 borders, all it is doing is throwing the ball in Israel's court.
