Mostly at night, Navy SEAL divers, robot boats, and underwater systems searched for and destroyed mines, using sonar-equipped unmanned vessels to locate them before divers or robotic submersibles detonated them.

The IMO estimated in June that around 80 mines were placed in key shipping lanes.

Shipowners believe the southern part of the strait near Oman likely has been cleared but remain doubtful that the entire waterway is mine-free.
