Managing permissions creep in the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK

The Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK relies on a service principal to manage delegated permissions, which are granted during interactive sessions via the `Connect-MgGraph` cmdlet. Over time, administrators often accumulate excessive permissions, a phenomenon known as permissions creep, as new scopes are added without removing those that are no longer necessary. This accumulation eventually hits an internal limit, causing authentication failures that prevent the SDK from establishing a connection.

📰 I installed real Linux apps on my Android phone, and it got dangerously close to replacing my laptop

Android phones have been powerful enough to handle everyday work for years, but that power has never brought them particularly close to replacing my laptop. The problem is Android itself, where most work remains trapped inside individual apps that cannot access the same tools, files, and processes as freely as software running on a desktop operating system.

Chaos ransomware uses browser-based C2 to evade network detection

The Chaos ransomware group has deployed a new Rust-based remote access trojan, msaRAT, which disguises command-and-control traffic by routing it through legitimate web browsers. By launching Chrome or Microsoft Edge in headless mode with remote debugging enabled, the malware utilizes the Chrome DevTools Protocol to manage communications. This design ensures that all external network activity appears to originate from standard browser processes rather than malicious infrastructure.

AI is killing off IBM’s mainframe business

IBM’s latest quarter was hurt by a sharp drop in mainframe sales, and management said the decline came from customers shifting budgets into other data center hardware instead of buying new Z systems now. The company said the AI boom is inflating prices for servers, storage, memory, and PCs, which pushed some planned mainframe purchases out of the quarter. IBM still argued this was a delay rather than a permanent loss of demand, saying it sees no evidence that customers are abandoning the platform.

Hardware-secured Windows KMS activation with TPM attestation

Microsoft is introducing a new security feature called KMS Hardware-Secured to protect Key Management Service (KMS) activation. This feature uses Trusted Platform Module (TPM) attestation to verify the hardware integrity of your activation servers. Starting with Windows Server 2025, you can assess your infrastructure's readiness for this change. In a future Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release, this hardware-based verification will become mandatory. This article explains the technical requirements and how you can prepare your environment.

Cloudflare introduces cache response rules for granular edge control

Cloudflare has launched Cache Response Rules, a new feature that allows administrators to modify HTTP response headers after they leave the origin server but before they are processed by the edge cache. This capability addresses common caching inefficiencies, such as accidental "Set-Cookie" headers or overly restrictive "Cache-Control" directives that prevent static assets from being cached. By applying these rules at the response phase, teams can resolve configuration conflicts without needing to modify origin server code or infrastructure.
