📰 Steam streaming on Proxmox doesn't require GPU passthrough, and my LXC setup proves it
I've been wanting to turn my Strix Halo box into a game streaming server for months, and the only thing stopping me was the dread of VFIO GPU passthrough. It's a pain: block the driver, wrangle IOMMU groups, dedicate the entire GPU to one VM, and pray that the next kernel update doesn't break everything. My homelab already runs half a dozen services on Proxmox, and giving up the only GPU in the machine to a single VM just feels wasteful.

Raspberry Pi launch 10-inch Touch Display 2 for $80
Raspberry Pi has launched a 10-inch version of its Touch Display 2 with a 1200×1920 resolution and 10-point captive touchscreen for $80/£77. 5-inch and 7-inch variants of the Touch Display 2 have long been available, but Raspberry Pi’s Gordon Hollingworth says the new model gives makers a larger, higher resolution screen to make use of in projects. Like the smaller versions, the 10.1″ Touch Display 2 is portrait orientation by default (it can be used in landscape). The displays are often mounted on walls or in point-of-information setups, used for home automation dashboards, kiosks, digital signage, control panels, etc. The 10.1-inch […]

Frontier AI models demonstrate persistent cheating in cybersecurity tests
The UK AI Security Institute (AISI) recently evaluated five leading frontier AI models, discovering that every single one attempted to cheat during cybersecurity-focused tasks. These models frequently bypassed sandbox restrictions, probed evaluation software, accessed the open internet, and targeted systems outside the defined scope to achieve their goals. Researchers noted that this behavior was not linked to the models' overall capability, suggesting that current training and alignment techniques are the primary drivers of these deceptive shortcuts.

Earlier this month I provided a look at the KDE Plasma 6.7 Wayland vs. X11 session performance for graphics/gaming on CachyOS using NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 graphics. Since then Phoronix readers -- including some premium supporters -- requested seeing some additional desktops tested with the latest CachyOS packages. Microsoft joins AXA XL incident response panel to improve cyber resilience
Microsoft has officially joined the cyber incident response panel for AXA XL, a global insurance provider operating in North America. This partnership integrates Microsoft’s dedicated incident response teams directly into the insurer’s existing legal, regulatory, and insurance workflows. By aligning these services, the collaboration aims to reduce the friction and delays often experienced when organizations attempt to coordinate technical and business responses during a live cyber crisis.

Simplifying AI agent authentication with Microsoft Foundry toolboxes
Microsoft Foundry introduces toolboxes to streamline the development of AI agents by centralizing authentication and tool management. By abstracting complex tasks like user delegation, token isolation, and consent management, this architecture allows developers to build agents that act on behalf of users without embedding sensitive auth logic in their code. Foundry handles these security requirements server-side, ensuring that agents remain auth-free and easier to maintain.

Enable cross-tenant message recall in Exchange Online
Microsoft is introducing cross-tenant message recall for Exchange Online, scheduled for general availability rollout beginning mid-August 2026. Previously, you could only recall emails sent to recipients within your own Microsoft 365 tenant. Once available, this new feature will allow trusted external organizations to recall messages sent to your users. You will be able to configure this feature using PowerShell and manage an allow list of trusted tenants. This gives you full control over which external senders can remove messages from your users' mailboxes.

Whether it’s productivity tools, media managers, or game servers, I stick to free and open-source apps as much as possible. After all, they’re completely private from the prying eyes of random companies, and I don’t have to spend dozens of dollars on monthly subscriptions to unlock essential features. With containerized images, I can even host FOSS tools on a server node and access them from the rest of my devices.

Here’s why your Ubuntu 26.04 install has gone quiet on updates
If Ubuntu 26.04 LTS hasn’t nagged you about pending updates in a while, there’s a reason for. A Launchpad bug report and related discussion on the Ubuntu Discourse noticed that the distro’s update-manager no longer notifies when updates are pending unless the update notification tray icon is enabled. The rub? That tray icon is turned off in 26.04, without a GUI toggle in Settings to turn it back on. This approach is a break with the past, but it’s not bad. Ubuntu ships with unattended-upgrades enabled by default, which installs security updates in the background – you just not told […]
