Slackforce Surfaces lets Slackbot build interactive dashboards in chat

Slack is turning Slackbot into an in-chat tool builder with Slackforce Surfaces, allowing users to describe a dashboard, report, poll, presentation, or microsite and have AI create it without leaving the conversation. The resulting tools can use permitted data from connected services such as Google Drive and Salesforce, then be shared, pinned, and discussed by the team.

Доступна операционная система реального времени RT-Thread 5.3

Linux Mint announces two new desktop apps

Two new apps are coming to Linux Mint later this year: a new calendar and eBook reader. A redesigned document hub will also be included to make it easier to find and manage files on your device. The new apps are part of the distro-agnostic XApp Project family (which, incidentally, now has a shiny new website dressed in the Claude design aesthetic blanketing half the web these days). Clockenstien is Mint’s new Calendar app Clockenstein is Linux Mint’s new calendar app but, lest anyone scream in horror at the terrible name, the user-facing label is just Calendar. It replaces GNOME […]

📰 DeepSeek Harness Flaw Let AI Agents Disable Their Own File Sandbox Without Approval

A flaw in DeepSeek Harness, DeepSeek's open-source tool for running AI coding agents on a developer's machine, let a sandboxed agent turn off its own sandbox with a single command. The tool runs an agent's commands inside an operating-system sandbox, so that an agent working on untrusted files cannot write outside its workspace. The agent could remove that limit by calling the tool's own web.

📰 AMD Posts New GCC Compiler Patch For Extended Load Optimization

It's nice seeing a new GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) patch out of AMD today that is a general optimization for the x86_64 compiler code and not exclusively tied to their Zen processors. It's an Extended Load Optimization to benefit code where there is a narrower type and then an arithmetic type with a wider type...

Claude agents used to automate cyberattacks

Anthropic reports that attackers are using Claude as an execution engine rather than merely a coding assistant, chaining autonomous agents through reconnaissance, exploitation, credential theft, and data exfiltration. One supply-chain campaign reportedly extracted more than 2,100 Azure AD token sets from over 40 corporate tenants in roughly 34 hours, while other operations ran against multiple victims with little human supervision.

Exchange Server AD FS Modern Authentication: Expanded Outlook mobile support

Microsoft has extended AD FS-based Modern Authentication in on-premises Exchange Server to Outlook for iOS and Outlook for Android. Modern Authentication (also called OAuth 2.0) lets mail clients obtain short-lived access tokens from Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) instead of repeatedly sending usernames and passwords. This closes a client gap for organizations that already use AD FS Modern Authentication on desktop Outlook and the native Mail apps on Apple devices. Hybrid Exchange deployments are not in scope; Microsoft still expects those environments to use Hybrid Modern Authentication with Microsoft Entra ID. This article explains what changed, who it affects, and what you need on the server and client side.

Brad Gerstner firmly rejects AI doomsday warnings

Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner defended continued AI development during an interview with Scott, arguing that recent warnings about self-improving systems have overstated the danger while ignoring safeguards already being built by technology companies and governments. Gerstner said the debate should focus on both AI’s risks and its potential benefits, rather than treating development as a reckless race.

Set default terminal GNOME

An option to set your default terminal picker is coming to GNOME Settings, as the image above, teased by developer Ignacy Kuchciński last week, shows. It won’t be ready in time for GNOME 51 – I’ll explain why in a minute – but those of you who don’t use the command line often enough to care about what terminal is set as your system default, may be surprised to hear you can’t currently do change it via a GUI. While you can use Settings > Apps > Default Apps to pick a preferred web browser, email client, imager viewer and […]

Ubuntu pulls 24.04.5 downloads due to installer bug

Canonical has pulled the Ubuntu 24.04.5 desktop ISO because of a bug that crashes the installer when users select the extended install options. The fifth point release to 24.04 landed on 10 September, bringing updated OS installers powered by the Linux 7.0 kernel. But many of those who downloaded the release found they couldn’t complete installation using the desktop installer if they opted for extended software. Only the standard amd64 Ubuntu desktop image is affected. Other Ubuntu 24.04.5 images, including those for Arm64, and flavours are unaffected by the crash. They remain available for download. Canonical’s Matthieu Clemenceau shared the update, […]
