A major update to open-vm-tools, a package that integrates Linux virtual machines with VMware hypervisors, is rolling out to users of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. “Without SRUing the newer version users get issues running on more recent hypervisors”, Canonical’s Lena Voytek explained in a backport request. It’s a full backport from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS to support platform enablement to benefit those running 24.04 LTS. The generally available items cover Windows single sign-on (SSO) prompt control, Exchange Online attribute writeback through Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync, Lifecycle Workflows testing and cancellation, and optional email during External ID sign-up. Three capabilities remain in public preview: Active Directory device sync with Cloud Sync, automated cleanup of guest accounts that have no sponsor, and Group Policy Object (GPO) backups in Microsoft Entra Domain Services. Lifecycle Workflows, Cloud Sync, and Domain Services are Entra features for joiner-mover-leaver automation, hybrid directory synchronization, and a managed Active Directory domain in Azure.

После двух лет разработки опубликован выпуск пользовательского дистрибутива Vanilla OS 3, основанного на пакетной базе Debian, но выходящего за рамки обычной пересборки. Системное окружение в Vanilla OS монтируется в режиме только для чтения и обновляется атомарно, а приложения запускаются в отдельных контейнерах, используя прослойку на базе инструментария Distrobox. В качестве пользовательского окружения предлагается немодифицированный GNOME, поставляемый в том виде, в каком он изначально выпускается разработчиками. Собственные графические конфигураторы написаны на GTK4 с использованием Libadwaita. Размер iso-образа - 1.8 ГБ (x86_64, arm64).
