India achieved 10% ethanol blending before schedule

Prime Minister Stated 10% Ethanol blending Had saved about 50,000 crores of foreign exchange which also reduced greenhouse gas emissions and Gave farmers an alternative source of income.


Govt has been implementing ethanol mixed with petrol (EBP) programmed throughout the country except union territory of Andaman Nicobar and lakshadweep.

India 85% dependence on oil needs and 50 % gas requirements was fulfilled by importing.

In order to reduce the import, the govt was in zeal of mixing of ethanol with petrol, which is made from sugarcane extract and other agricultural commodities.


India is world’s 3rd biggest oil importing and consuming country.


10% ethanol blending was planned for November 2022 but it is achieved on June 2022, next planned for 20%ethanol blend in petrol is scheduled by 2025.

India is world 5th largest producer of ethanol after US, Brazil, European Union, and China.


Ethanol fuel is ethyl alcohol, the same type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, used as fuel. It is most often used as a motor fuel, mainly as a biofuel additive for gasoline.

The first production car running entirely on ethanol was the Fiat 147, introduced in 1978 in Brazil by Fiat.
