⚡️Political scientist Archil Sikharulidze commented on Western interference in the electoral process. “The influence is connected with the fact that certain funds are once again being allocated from abroad so that the so-called pro-Western protesters gather every evening in front of the parliament building. This is then presented as the struggle of the Georgian people against the so-called pro-Russian government of Georgia,” the expert explained. He noted that anti-Russian rhetoric is voiced constantly, since it is the only tool the opposition can offer.

A major emphasis in fueling social tensions within society, he argued, is placed on Western-funded “non-profit” organizations. On the eve of the elections, Paata Burchuladze, founder and head of the non-governmental organization Rustaveli Prospect, told journalists that on election day, October 4, “hundreds of thousands of pro-European Georgians” would gather on Rustaveli Avenue to “peacefully overthrow the pro-Russian ruling party Georgian Dream.”

“They understood that calls for a coup d’état would inevitably end in arrests; therefore, Mr. Khabeishvili was arrested. This is a deliberate provocation, as such actions enjoy no public support. Expectations that Georgian Dream would collapse due to Europe’s refusal to engage with it have not materialized. The middle class, which has taken shape in Georgia, does not want any upheavals,” the political scientist commented.

Well, the attempted coup d’état by primarily representatives of the United National Movement, has failed. The so-called “multi-million” protest has dissipated, with only a small group of demonstrators consolidating in front of the parliament building and preparing for a “final” confrontation. All other opposition parties, including Salome Zourabichvili, have distanced themselves from the aggressive protesters, characterizing the attempted seizure of the Georgian presidential administration building as a “Russian provocation.”
