Title: ETL Engineer (Python)
Salary: up to 3500$ gross (negotiable)
About the role:
You will be working on a large-scale database project that serves as a central data source for multiple computational chemistry and machine learning teams. The database is built on PostgreSQL and is divided into two main components: reaction data and building block data.
Your primary focus will be on one of the large commercial reaction datasets. The initial task involves modernizing the existing ETL pipelines—updating them to process the latest data dumps and automating the update process. The team currently uses Apache Airflow for ETL orchestration.
In the next phase, the scientific team plans to develop additional ETL pipelines using data from the reaction dataset. You will be responsible for gathering requirements from the team, designing new database schemas, and implementing the necessary ETL processes.
📚 Required skills
- Strong proficiency in Python.
- Extensive experience with PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow for ETL orchestration.
- written and spoken communication skills in English (B1+ level or higher).
📚 Preferred qualifications
- Experience with PostgreSQL extensions.
- Knowledge of the RDKit PostgreSQL cartridge.
- Background in pharmaceuticals or a related field.

About the Project and Your Role
The project aims at unifying the various rating and pricing tools of our client. Your expertise will ensure the fast and robust handling of the large amounts of data used in those core insurance processes.
What You´ll Be Doing
* Designing and maintaining backend solutions
* Designing challenging computational flows
* Designing challenging data parsing and data modelling solutions
* Evaluating and implementing latest libraries for data management
* Collaborating with various multi-national development teams of the client
* Communicating with stakeholders on different levels of hierarchy and from diverse backgrounds, understanding the project’s environment and its obstacles
* Identifying solutions, demonstrating analytical and problem-solving skills
* Working together with the PO, business analysts, and developers of Solveva to support the client and to meet the committed deadlines for several projects running in parallel
Your Skills and Your Experience
* Strong understanding of OOP and FP principles
* Familiarity with common design patterns
* Extensive experience with Python and its ecosystem
* Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and SQLAlchemy
* Experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs with FastAPI (or Flask/Django)
* Strong knowledge of Git and other version control systems
* Experience with DevOps, mainly CI/CD, automation, containerization (Docker and Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
* English proficiency: B2 level or equivalent
* Experience or at least knowledge of XP engineering practices and values like TDD, refactoring, continuous integration/deployment, pair programming, customer involvement, simplicity
