'The Sun Set Off 4,000 Sea Mines During the Vietnam War'

Only now do scientists fully understand just how strong a 1972 solar storm was.

"ON AUGUST 4, 1972, NEAR the North Vietnamese port of Hai Phong, dozens of mines hiding in the waters exploded in little more than an instant. American troops had laced the seas bordering North Vietnam with thousands of mines, lying in wait for ships to pass by. But in this case, no ships had set them off.

Up and down the coast, in the first few weeks of that August, this mysterious phenomenon repeated itself, until, according to one estimate, 4,000 destructor mines had detonated, as if ghost ships had been trawling the waters and sweeping them for danger.

There was an invisible force that was setting off the mines, though, and it had originated close to 93 million miles away.

Early that month, the sun had produced a series of fierce flares, close to four orders of magnitude more powerful than a typical solar flare. During the peak of a solar cycle, the concentrations of magnetic energy will erupt from the sun and wash towards Earth. These were so strong that they saturated particle detectors used to measure such events and sent magnetometers off the scale. Bright auroras appeared over the United States and Europe, as far south as Spain

The mines that United States forces had dropped outside of the Vietnamese ports had magnetic triggers—sensors would measure the amplitude, polarity, or gradient of magnetic fields, waiting for an iron-heavy ship to pass by, tweaking the field and triggering the bomb. When the solar flares distorted the magnetic field of the Earth, the mines reacted. They blew."

Once you understand that the Earth's temperature is determined by the distance from & the activity of the Sun, you also understand that "climate scientists" are the wrong experts to listen to: the solar physicists are the experts we should be hearing a lot more from instead, where are they?

SOLAR INERTIAL MOTION AND GLOBAL WARMING

"The effects of the Sun on the Earth and other planets are caused by a combination of:

1) the solar activity itself governed by solar dynamo mechanism acting in the solar interior;

2) the orbital motion of the Earth (or planets) and Sun leading to 

long-term variations (Milankovich cycles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milankovitch_cycles,  15-100K  years durations), caused by the planet tilts, orbit change and various types of axis precession; 

medium-term variations (Hallstatt’s cycle, 2.0-2.2K) caused by the solar inertial motion imposed by gravitation of large planets of the solar system.

Most current studies considered the only effect of the Sun via solar activity variations (item 1. Eddy (1976) established that the solar irradiance in the past 300 years followed by the terrestrial temperature (see Fig.1). On this basis, the solar forcing in all the terrestrial models including the IPCC ones was linked to the solar activity process (item 1 above). And this was a good approach until the time from 1970-80s when solar activity started to decrease when the terrestrial temperature continues increasing while the solar activity started decreasing

This prompted some researchers to look for some alternative heating mechanisms. As result they came up with the ‘Hockey stick’ model and suggested that the terrestrial atmosphere is heated because it creates the greenhouse effect by the infra-red emission of carbon dioxide molecules populated by anthropogenic activity.  This extra-heating of the atmosphere was suggested despite of the CO2 molecule emission, by being infra-red, having a rather low energy and very high opacity (a large number of the molecules on the line of sight). 

The high opacity of CO2  molecules means that CO2 emission would not be as strong as suggested by IPCC because it is locked by the radiative transfer scattering process of internal diffusion. The rule states that only emission from the optical thickness of unity can be emitted out of the media with large optical sickness, or opacity. This means that the atmospheric layer with CO2 molecules will emit to the Earth and to the space rather limited emission because the emitted CO2 intensity is proportional to the exponent with a negative power of the optical depth of the layer, from which it is emitted. The higher the negative power the smaller the layer contribution to the emitted intensity. Practically, only the layers with optical thickness lower than unity can provide noticeable contribution. Thus, this limited CO2 emission will fail to provide any measurable heating."

THE REAL REASON FOR MID TERM CLIMATE CHANGE:

"The evidence for a persistent irregular climate cycle with a period of 2400 ±200 years is strong. There is compelling evidence of a solar cycle of about the same length and phase; suggesting that the solar cycle might be causing the climate cycle. We will present a summary of the evidence, beginning with the original paleontological evidence, followed by the cosmogenic radionuclide (10Be or Beryllium-10 and 14C or Carbon-14) evidence. For more information, a bibliography of many papers discussing topics relevant to the Bray (Hallstatt) cycle can be found here. Only a small portion of the relevant papers are mentioned in this summary post.

In the November 16, 1968 issue of Nature, James R. Bray first proposed the idea of a 2600-year solar-driven climate cycle based primarily upon evidence of Holocene global glacier advances and retreats. We prefer to call this period the Bray Cycle after him, but the same cycle is often called the Hallstatt Cycle. In this post, we will use both names interchangeably to refer both to the climate cycle and the solar cycle. Bray only considered the maximum advance of a glacier field or a major re-advance that reached the near vicinity of the maximum. He used glacier fields in North America, Greenland, Eurasia, New Zealand and South America in the study. The glacial advances were dated using tree rings, lichenometry and radiocarbon dating. Glacial events for the last 13,700 years suggested an optimum interval of 2600 years. He used a “solar index,” based upon sunspots, sunspot cycle length and auroral records that covered the period from 700BC to the present day to show the cause might be a solar cycle. Over this period, the chi-square statistictied the glacial events to solar activity with a score of 28.6 (P<0.001)."

Interview with Ivanka Charvatova: Is climate change caused by solar inertial motion?

An interview with Ing. Ivanka Charvátová, CSc. from the Geophysical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Prague). The story of one politically incorrect scientific discovery.

"Already Sir Isaac Newton in his PRINCIPIA (1687) intuitively came to the following conclusion: “… since that centre of gravity (centre of mass of the solar system) is continually at rest, the Sun, according to the various positions of the planets, must continually move every day, but will never recede far from that centre.” This effect is not insignificant. The Sun moves across an area the size of 4.3 solar radiuses, i.e. 0.02 AU or 3×10^6 km. As a coincidence, the average solar speed is around 50 km/hr. Just like the speed of a car driving downtown. The first study about SIM was written by P.D. Jose in year 1965.

You are the author of quite a breakthrough in this field of study. What is it?

First I studied the SIM periodicity and in 1987 I came to survey the geometry of this motion. I discovered the solar motion can be classified into two elementary types. Motion along a trefoil-like trajectory governed by the Jupiter-Saturn order. And another motion type which is chaotic. This gave us a precise homogeneous basis, upon which it became possible to study the solar-terrestrial and climatic variability. You may find it comforting that no matter how the Sun wiggles, every 179 years it comes back to a regular trefoil path. It is important to note, that the periods of chaotic motion coincide with the long-term minima in solar activity such as the Wolf Minimum (1270-1350), Spörer Minimum (~1430-1520), Maunder Minimum (~1620-1710) or Dalton Minimum (~1790-1840). During the trefoil periods the ST-phenomena are stable – the sunspot cycles are 10 years long, volcanic activity is muted and in the middle of the trefoil period there is a temperature maximum down here on Earth.
Later I discovered also a 2402 year long cycle of solar motion. After the lapse of this period the Sun always enters a segment, when for almost 370 years it moves continuously along the trefoil trajectory. This is when the natural conditions are stable, there is a long-term thermal maximum. The latest symmetry of the motion trefoils was around 25 AD. The NASA scientists called this 2402 yr cycle as “Charvatova Cycle”. The prospective solar motion can be calculated in advance (celestial mechanics), which gave us brand new solar-predictive capabilities. So far our predictions exploit the observation that the same solar motion trajectory tends to generate similar phenomena. (I was the only one in the whole world who got the 23rd sunspot cycle prediction right). The physical mechanism is not known yet."

Solar effects: interplay between Solar activity and SIM (Solar Inertial Motion)

"In the next 32 years the Sun is entering the modern grand solar minimum (GSM) (2020-2053) predicted by Zharkova et al, 2015, Sci.Reps. nature.com/articles/srep1… , explained in more details by Zharkova, 2020 tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… and actively supported by the other researchers who unfortunately did not cite our paper and pretended they did the original discovery themselves (Kitiashvili, 2020, ApJ iopscience.iop.org/article/10.384…;   Obridko et al, 2021, MNRAS, 504, 4990  arxiv.org/pdf/2104.06808…;  Herrera et al., 2021, JASR, 68, 1485 ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2021AdSpR.…).
The decrease of solar activity is expected to significantly reduce the input of TSI (Total Solar Irradiance) to the Earth causing the reduction by 1.0C of the average temperature on Earth intechopen.com/chapters/75534.  The other GSM2 (Grand Solar Minimum) will happen in 2375-2415 that will again lead to a reduction of terrestrial temperature by the similar amount. Between the two GSMs the TSI will be producing extra-heating of the terrestrial atmosphere and ocean until 2500."
