Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law revoking ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), the corresponding document is posted on the website of the official publication of legal acts.
The initiative was submitted to parliament on October 13. The first article of the current law, which proposes to ratify the agreement signed on behalf of the Russian state on September 24, 1996, is repealed.

The CTBT has been acceded to by 187 states and ratified by 178 participating countries. However, several countries, including nuclear powers - the USA, China, Israel, have still not done this, unlike Russia, which ratified the treaty in 2000. At the same time, states that possess nuclear weapons have made a voluntary commitment not to test them.

As the Russian representative to international organizations in Vienna , Mikhail Ulyanov , clarified , Moscow does not intend to resume nuclear tests, the main goal is to be on an equal footing with Washington.
