Grazie al coraggio dei piloti e del personale di bordo e ai calcoli meteorologi aziendali un volo della Delta Airlines, il DL431, è riuscito a sfidare Irma, un uragano di categoria 5, volando verso San Juan, Puerto Rico, atterrando, recuperando gli ultimi superstiti prima che l'aeroporto chiudesse, e poi riprendere il volo verso casa. Altri voli di altre compagnie ci avevano provato, ma avevano dovuto rinunciare in prossimità dei forti venti dell'uragano Irma. Parecchie persone hanno seguito con ansia e speranza il volo DL431 via internet, tramite FlightRadar24.

Con gli uragani che devastano la costa atlantica meridionale degli Stati Uniti (ma alcuni saliranno, ve lo dico per esperienza di voli bloccati a JFK) e nomi sempre diversi, viene la curiosità magari di sapere chi dà il nome e con quale logica a questi bizzarri e paurosi fenomeni naturali. A differenza dell’Europa - e dell’Italia in particolare - gli Usa adesso hanno livelli di occupazione molto alta. Tanto che ci sono sei milioni di posti di lavoro per i quali non si trovano le persone da assumere. Questo accade per varie ragioni, ma certamente non è la mancanza di competenze dei lavoratori il nodo del problema. Non parliamo di figure super-specializzate ma di profili con salari che si aggirano attorno ai 10-15 dollari l’ora. Colletti blu, insomma.

La tendenza del mercato aereonautico è di utilizzare sistemi di intrattenimento di bordo basati sullo schermo degli utenti. C'è un tizio che pensa di aggiungere un nuovo passaggio alla storia recente del design di pagine web. Dallo skeuomorfismo al Flat Design e adesso alla sua idea: il Type Design, cioè il corpo grafico (un mio antico insegnante di semiotica parlava di "somatesto", il "corpo fisico del testo") che arreda e proporziona i contenuti.
