Stamattina rileggevo l'editorale di esordio della mia rivista di critica letteraria preferita, The Believer (era la primavera del 2003), che dall'autunno dell'anno scorso senza dire niente non pubblica più nuovi numeri, e ho pensato: si è chiuso un cerchio e si è conclusa la traiettoria propulsiva di una generazione (la mia, peraltro) di un gruppo di autrici e autori americani che ruotano attorno a Dave Eggers e a Michael Chabon (con lo scomparso David Foster Wallace sullo sfondo).

Il loro grido di guerra era: "Rejoice! Believe! Be Strong and Read Hard!"

Adesso quel gruppo non è più ufficialmente fatto da "giovani". E non è neanche più esplosivo. Si stanno cristallizzando nella storia: sono diventati parte del passato?

Non ce la faranno mai. Su Indiegogo c’è questo “Dock definitivo” che è piatto e largo come un portatile, si connette via Usb-C/Thunderbolt3 sostanzialmente raddoppiando lo spessore di uno dei nuovi ultrasottili ultrasbook e fa da batteria esterna, SSD esterno e hub per tutte le varie porte Usb, monitor, etc. Meno cavi ma un bozzolone gigante.

Per adesso sono arrivati a 6.700 dollari su 50mila. L’idea è bella ma strampalata.

Come hanno già fatto anche altre università americane, adesso anche il MIT di Boston lancia il suo fondo di investimenti. L’obiettivo però è leggermente diverso da quello degli altri: finanziare un certo numero di startup (60 all’anno) che hanno bisogno di tempi lunghi per il tipo di ricerca che fanno e che quindi non attraggono il classico venture capitalis. La maggior parte saranno spin-off del MIT stesso.
