Money quote: "An interesting thing here is that the model has learned that many fonts use upper case characters for the lower case range — the network interpolates between Q and q seamlessly. Here’s an example of the network interpolating very slowly between two fonts where this is the main difference"

Apple
Integrazione verticale, hardware e software, stile e design. Qualcosa bolle a Redmond.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dunIj0rzeU8

Money quote: "I think about what’s in my refrigerator—a lot. At least once a week, before my Saturday trip to the farmer’s market and grocery store, I go through and toss everything expired, making room for the new stuff and noting which staples need a resupply. The process of putting away the groceries on Saturday afternoon can take up to an hour, because I’ve evolved so many little food storage hacks"

Si possono fare soldi con i libri? In inglese e toccando certi argomenti o generi a quanto pare sì.
Money quote: "This was by far my biggest return on investment. It took about two weeks to figure out how to format my book for paperback and get setup for Createspace, but this is nearly 70% of my revenue. It’s ironic because my e-book is $4.99 and my paperback is $14.99. I priced the paperback higher because I wanted to drive readers to the ebook, where I could update it more easily. What I learned, however, is that many of the people buying my book are parents, not students, and they are more familiar with paperbacks. There is also an incorrect perception that you need a Kindle to read Kindle ebooks."

Money quote: "If your primary job is as a maker (i.e. designer, engineer, writer, scientist, etc.), it’s critical that you have long, uninterrupted blocks of time in your day to get into the flow of creative problem-solving. You can’t do that if your day is 80% meetings, or if your meetings are scheduled such that you don’t get more than half an hour here and an hour there to actually do your work."
Money quote bis: "If a quick scan of your calendar reveals that you don’t have at least that much time to focus on making stuff, then you’re either not being very productive, or you’re working nights and weekends to fill that gap, which isn’t sustainable."

The Sanctity of Your Calendar
I am currently on parental leave, so these days I wake up to the freedom of an empty calendar that’s ready to be filled with toddler train…
Money quote: "For all the power and the genuine usefulness of data, perhaps we have not yet acknowledged how imperfectly a tidy database maps on to a messy world. We fail to see that a computer that is a hundred times more accurate than a human, and a million times faster, will make 10,000 times as many mistakes. This is not to say that we should call for death to the databases and algorithms. There is at least some legitimate role for computerised attempts to investigate criminal suspects, and keep traffic flowing. But the database and the algorithm, like the autopilot, should be there to support human decision-making. If we rely on computers completely, disaster awaits"

Letteralmente.
Money quote: "Writers, radio producers, photographers, and filmmakers would come together and perform new stories in all different media mashed together. And then we’d invite the audience to hang out with us at the bar after. The show grew from there, and started getting more ambitious. We moved into bigger theaters. We started working with our musical collaborators Magik*Magik Orchestra to commission original scores and perform them live on stage, with the stories. We began to commission original illustration and animation and photography to bring stories to live on the screen in different ways. We experimente"

Avete presente Indiana Jones? Altri archeologhi-avventurieri, intendo. Sort of. Interessante.
Money quote: “Before Indiana Jones and Lawrence of Arabia, came Abraham Hyacinthe Anquetil-Duperron. Born in 1731, Anquetil was the original Orientalist-adventurer: a European scholarly expert of Asian culture who also embodied bold, heroic action in the field.“

Mistero.
