Money quote: “Most riders may not have realized that they had a preference until Gabriel Bautista, a college student from the Bronx, posted a photo and a simple question on Twitter on New Year’s Eve: “All my New Yorkers, which is the best seat?”

In the photo, a group of seats on a D train, in a cascade of orange hues, is labeled with a number, from 1 to 5”

La cosa più importante sul pianeta? I funghi.

Money quote: "Kew has released the first ever State of the World's Fungi report revealing how important fungi are to all life on Earth."

Money quote:

"Q: Don't you know that you could throw some ads up and make money?

A: Yes, I know, thank you. For those who feel they need more advertising in their life, please have a look at our swanky Electronic Frontier Foundation ad below. If you believe in a free Internet, please consider clicking on the link and donating to the EFF."

Money quote: "The outside of the octagonal Ruriden columbarium mimics a traditional Buddhist burial building with heavy wooden doors and curving eaves, which belies its digital innards. It’s home to 2,046 small altars, each with a drawer holding the ashes of the deceased atop which seems to float a crystal Buddha.

People can use a smart card, which grants access to the building and lights up the deceased’s corresponding statue, to visit their lost loved ones."

Ecco a voi: "The Little Handbook of Statistical Practice" di Gerard E. Dallal, Ph.D

Money quote: "I am freezing these web pages. Except for a few typos I hope to correct, there will be no further additions or revisions to these webpages, but see the announcement of an eBook below.

Occasionally, I have received emails asking me about "the book". I've had to respond that there is no book. The web pages are all there is. I've toyed with the idea of turning this site into a book, but the thought of the amount of editing it would take quickly dampened my enthusiasm. Yet, these web pages have a long history."

Finalmente parliamo di cose serie. Questi sì che sono giochi.

Money quote: "Dear strategy gamers, I want to tell you about a little diamond in the rough I came across the other day. Its name is Rule the Waves, and you should be playing it.

Naval Warfare Simulations, the creators of Rule the Waves, describe it as “a game of naval ship design and combat at the birth of the 20th century.” But that really doesn’t do it justice. If you really want to get the flavor of what Rule the Waves does, think of it instead as Armageddon Simulator."
